have been enquiring about getting my tracking done, sent an email to revolution (quite a well known tuning shop in newcastle) and this is the reply about my tracking, what are camber bolts????, and this sounds like a decent price if thay are any good

this is the reply

Hi Allen,

Yes it shouldn't be a problem aligning your 300ZX, we can easily take into account the increase in total track width and if you so wish, we can set up your vehicles geometry to your own spec!

However we would advise that you purchase some front alignment products in the form of camber bolts. We can source these from the US and can have them across here in the UK within 6 working weeks. Doing this will allow our head mechanic to change the tolerances of all camber, caster and toe. However, we are a bit in the dark with the rear now that you have a fixed axle. To be perfectly honest, we'd rather see the car first, get it up on our ramp and disypher a plan of action.

We only use the most advanced equipment in the world, our machine uses 4 digital cameras (1 to each wheel of the car) to relay information back to the mechanic. This machine is a Hunter Aligner.

Ok, the camber bolts that are required come from Eibach, and they involve having to remove the front lower arms, removing the original fixing bolts, enlarging the fixing bolts mounts and introducing the new Eibach camber bolts which will space the arm out so that the arm can be adjusted when refitted (upon fitting these, we have the available tolerances of -0.75 to +0.75 degrees). We have all the tools here required to carry out the job and we have previously done this work to another 300ZX.

The alignment itself will cost the following:

Alignment check (to make sure there is nothing damaged/buckled) and to advise £19.99 + VAT

Complete 4 wheel alignment (camber/caster/toe) £99.99+VAT

Fiting of camber bolts £35+VAT

Camber bolts supplied £40.00

Camber bolts are probably his phrase for shim kits. You bought the Powertrix adjustable tension rods and camber arms didn't you? If yes, this is all you'll need for them to adjust the camber.

Begs the question, has that place ever done work on a Z32?...also, an alignment check really should be free.

i didnt get the adjustble arms and things, i had to fork out for new hicas balljoints (iner and outer) and got a hicas eliminator bar as my rear steering rack was fooked, am currently saving for the adjustable arms and rods, but i desperatley need my tracking done due to changing the rear joints

Just get the rear tracking done then and wait until you get the adjustable camber arms. How long do you think it'll be before you get them?

good few months, will get the rear done and leave the rest till ive got the bits on

Christ, never seen those before, would rather fit wooden struts to my car. Look how thin those metal flanges are!

Alan,

The camber bolts roughly do the same job as adjustable upper & lower arms. If you are serious about keeping your ZX for the forseable future and wish the have the best possible suspension setup then I can only really recommend you go for the full Powertrix setup, ie:

Adjustable tension rods

Adjustable front camber arms

Adjustable rear camber arms

Adjustable rear traction rods

You can also go for the adjustable front lower arms from SPL-Parts but that is overkill for most applications bar those that use the car on track exclusively.

Once you've got those bits installed as well as sorted your other suspension components (ie, struts/springs/coilovers/etc) then get the alignment/tracking sorted professionally. If you really want to go the whole hog then get them to perform a "4-corner" weighting which will allow them to add weights to the car to bring the balance back as close to the original front/rear setup as possible.

Lots to think about and no doubt lots of money to save up!

If you need any advise, you know where to find me.

Regards,

Dan
