Hi when looking to replace the rear lights on the Z are the jap and uk ones the same?

I am looking to get replacement rear lights for a UK Series 1 tt so will there be any difference if I get lights off a jap car? Will the lights need modding if I try using the jap lights on a uk car?

I have seen a few lights for sale but they are all jap and I would rather know first before getting any surprises when it comes to fitting the lights in.

hey m8 just had another peek at ur pics so is it just a case of replacing the inner coloured light strip ??

As have seen somthin like that on e-bay ie clear white panels that would sit behind the outer lens ??

Is that sort of how it works ??

You got it in one bud :D

When you buy the lenses off ebay, they come with some very basic instructions. All you need to do it take the lights off your car, heat them up and ply them apart and then take out the orange difusser and slip in the clear one, them stick them back together and jobs a good un' :D

I also bought some pinstripes and made mine look even more like 99s. :D

cool thought so !!

thats a must after the service lol not too expensive off good old eb either thanks for the info :-)

not sure on that one m8 but zx-eyes will prob know as he's fitted his

give him a shout:D

My ears are burning

It is basically a plastic clear diffuser, no doubt you can source it from various shops etc.... however when you buy them pre cut its an awful lot less messing about! You can literally just slide them straight in and the job is done. :)

Good choice ;) :D

Also regarding cutting your own, you'd have to spend time finding the right stuff and my time is worth more to me, lol :D

I bought some clear lenses off Ebay and ruined one of my rear light clusters trying to pry it apart. I had got the cluster nice and hot, but the glue substance was still very sticky and I damaged the plastic pulling it apart. The glue is very messy as well and its easy to get it on the new clear lense.

I ended up buying the OEM 99 spec brand new from the States. They worked out at £200 included taxes & delivery (center panel not included). My original center panel was refitted and does not stand out badly against the new ones at all.

At least I tried! I'm sure the conversion works for many, but not for me & I've read on this Forum others have failed too.

Just offering another spin on this topic.

yes its the clear light diffuser from strip lights or the big square one they put in on tiled office ceilings, I did this on my last zed, used a hairdryer to heat them up and wd40 to remove any mess when i finished. extreamly easy mod, ignore the write ups about using an over.

A conventional hairdryer or heat gun will do the trick but beware your fingers will burn if you use that hairdryer to long

My girlfriends kept cutting out because it was getting to hot, was really annoying.

But when you unbolt them from the car, beware that they are held on with the same glue so you need to add heat to remove them and heat to put them back on.
