We all know what happens to first cars so I would look for a car I could get replacement parts for cheap and easy (bumpers, grills and head-lights:x: o & wing-mirrors).:)

Would also look at old pug mate.

unless you are doing well over 20.000 miles a year in it a diesel will be more expensive to run.

And dont dismiss the Pug so lightly. I did over 60,000 miles in mine over 5 years and it never let me down.

I still see it locally driving around.

i only do 5000 a year in me zed as a daily driver, so will prob only do about 2500 in a second car, although the wench will have it more than i will, and want an estate for the hound from hell, when he is fully grown there aint no chance of him fitting in the zed lol

The A4's are great, I have done 50k in mine with no problems at all. The other cheap option would be a Focus TDCi, the go well.

Go for an older one Allan, don't borrow money if you don't have to mate. :) Also you'll lose less with an older one :D

I have just been offered a Pug 406 1.8 TDi on a T plate for £1200 but its a saloon

Alan, get a bucket! It will be her first car and an estate, will be hard to park for a new driver. It will get more bangs than my bird.

Spend the spare cash on pet insureance for the wee man.

i had an a6 on a 51 reg 1.9tdi was one of the best cars i had barring the zed ofcourse :-)
