masterfett
hey, as some of you will have read i picked up my first zed on wednesday, havent really had all to much chance to drive the car since (or even see it in the light!) due to work commitments. however just went for a quick drive this morning and just a few things i was wondering if you guys could tell me to worry about or not (i owned a french car before and EVERYTHING french breaks!).. i noticed a very slight ticking .. only audible with windows down so not to loud. when engine is running.. there is a sort of groany/knocky.. almost slurping sound coming from the top corner of the engine bay .. drivers side. when i stepped out of my car i could feel some serious heat as soon as i opend the door.. is this usual? temp gauge is fine and didnt run lumpy. also on full chat the boost is on the notch just below 7.. although granted dial maybee out being its like 18 years old. cheers all .. otherwise a dream come true driving a zed! stenorth
I'm making the assumption that your cars an import? The ticking sound is in all probability the lifters/tappets, the oil in the heads will drain away if the car is left to stand, it normally disappear if the cars used frequently. Some heats normal, especially if the exhaust has been replaced with an aftermarket one. Should be warm but not hot/roasting. It is more than likely that your not getting extended boost, people refer to it as the car is in safety boost, this could be because of a number of things most common would be a sensor fault or boost leak. Congrats on the purchase, hope you have as much fun as i have with Zeds! hey, as some of you will have read i picked up my first zed on wednesday, havent really had all to much chance to drive the car since (or even see it in the light!) due to work commitments. however just went for a quick drive this morning and just a few things i was wondering if you guys could tell me to worry about or not (i owned a french car before and EVERYTHING french breaks!).. i noticed a very slight ticking .. only audible with windows down so not to loud. when engine is running.. there is a sort of groany/knocky.. almost slurping sound coming from the top corner of the engine bay .. drivers side. when i stepped out of my car i could feel some serious heat as soon as i opend the door.. is this usual? temp gauge is fine and didnt run lumpy. also on full chat the boost is on the notch just below 7.. although granted dial maybee out being its like 18 years old. cheers all .. otherwise a dream come true driving a zed! TranceManDann
oh and also there is switch on the dash (orange), to the right of the steering wheel.... what the hell does this do? if its an import it may be a switch for a rear fog light, jap cars dont have them so one has be put in aftermarket to pass the mot over here, mine has one to the right of the steering wheel too. GUMBALL3000
Check your ECU for fault codes buddy, any number of them can put your car into 'Safety Boost'.. Everything you need to know on how to do it, and how to read the codes is in this link: http://www.ttzd.com/tech/diagnostictech.html HTH ;)
hellraiser
when engine is running.. there is a sort of groany/knocky.. almost slurping sound coming from the top corner of the engine bay .. drivers side. this could be the aiv in the wing. does it sound more like a gurgling noise as in drinking the last bit of water from the bottom of a cup. you get that slurp. if so you need to drain the water in the U shaped pipe that goes to the unit. there is a guide somewhere. masterfett
ok so.. i checked.. got error code 34.. then did it again just to be sure ... 55 :S not sure whats going on but 34 is detonation sensor unit.. how do i go about checking this out ...the engine bay in the zed is very alien to me :P
groover
I would check it again or get it on a consult, if its the det sensor it would be engine out to replace it, but there is a resistor mod that can be done to trick the ecu into thinking its ok. Sometimes doing the diagnostic, using the method you used you can sometimes count the flashes wrong, so do it a couple of times to be sure of what you are getting then go from there.
