Hi,

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between an NA and TT gearbox and if so what - does it have an adapter plate etc?

Cheers,

The difference is in the bellhousing thickness. Fitment is the same. You can still use a TT clutch and flywheel, but you have to space the starter with some thick washers.

Cheers, would there be a quick way to tell, it looks like theres some wear on the flywheel from the starter motor?

Thanks again!

No quick way, not without measuring bell housing thickness...and then comparing with another.

If it was an NA box without the starter spaced out then it would'nt disgengage the starter motor after starting the car. Would probbaly sound pretty nasty too when starting and running with the starter constantly fighting with the ring gear.

I forgot to mention...the flywheel will also rub on the bellhousing - unless you file down part of the bellhousing...or you let the flywheel do that for you which would'nt take long.

From what you've said it sounds like the box is in all probablity a TT one then, what made me think otherwise is that the rear subframe is an NA one and from modifications to the wiring on the gearbox looks as if the car was a automatic originally.

Thanks for your help matey!

What about model years?, some came with oil cooling? and i`ve heard that some came with upgraded sync rings?

UK's came with oil cooler, but the boxes are the same, its just that the oil cooler inlets/outlets are not used on the Imports.

1998 onwards had improved syncros

Does the new type of syncro`s fit the old boxes, or is there any other difference that makes that impossible?

Thanks for answers!
