Description:

Hit a phone poll at 120 mph and continued off a 15 foot cliff rolling 3 times in the process.

:smash:

we all complain that zeds are heavy but what would you rather crash at 100mph?

A tanklike Z or a tin foil elise etc

Although this one is stupid :

Its obviously just having a spoiler removed and smoothed over !

Description

Took a corner at 85 and lost control of the backend. Fish-tailed left then right, then hit a curb flew into a tree, did a 745 degree turn in mid-air, then hit another tree, took down the tree and fell out the car.

Injury Report:

Dislocated knee :o is that all ? I did that playing football lol

Well it makes me feel a bit better after seeing the wind carry a wheelie bin into my zed tonight. FFS I hate this fooking climate, you don't expect this sh1t in summer grrrr.

Elise please, much stronger than a zed, or just about anything else on the market.

Just because it's heavy doesn't make it safe, you have to remember the 300 was designed in the 80's, at a time when they didn't have any of the safety stuff they do today, not even SRS, targa roof doesn't really help things, neither do door-mounted seat belts

The later zeds have SRS and the seat belts were only door mounted on the series 1 J-spec zeds.

would be interesting to see a comparitive accident in an elise and a zed tbh... looking at elise pics on wrecked exotics the cockpit area seems to be able to withstand quite some impact, the rest of the shell just rips to shreds but seems to leave the cockpit in tact... most of the time!

most people cringe at the fact that the elises are 'glued' together but the bonding properties of the resins and cloths used to do this are far superior to welded joints... still, not sure what car i would want to be inside in a head on collision

neither mate !

Sorry there, I have to disagree with you on the safety of the 300ZX. It might have been design in the 80s, its saftey record to date surpass many other so-called modern day sport car.

have you been involved in an accident in a ZX? I suppose not and I hope you'r never been in any accident for that matter. I have been and I'm happy I was in ZX when it happened, worked out of the wreckage not even with a scratch.

Point is give credit where it's deserved

I'd say that despite its age, a 300zx would stand up comparitively well in a collision.

Sure, it may lack air bags, seat-belt pre-tensioners etc that most modern cars have; but it was actually designed from the ground up to be driven at 155 mph+ so some consideration would have been given to actully crashing at that speed.

Additional passive restraint aside, it's the cabin that needs to remain intact to ensure minimal injury. Also the late 1980s was when many manufacturers began to take safety more seriously. The humble Mk3 Astra for example was launched in 1991 and had side impact beams in the doors, seat-belt pre-tensioners etc etc. Some of the features would have been conceived in the late 80s prior to the car going on sale.

[DISCLAIMER] This is just my opinion - I don't recommend going out and hitting a wall at 150mph to test any theories posted!!!!:p
