Hi,

Any heating engineers who can help me on this? The boiler is a Potterton Performa 30he and the problem is the "Fault on fan or flue" light is on and there's no hot water. It did it before but then seemed to sort itself out. Any ideas if this is something I can sort?

Thanks

Vijay

with any combie boiler it will go into shutdown mode iff the spent gases cant be drawn out via the flu fan so ide try that 1st..check the fan is not stuck or seized. iff you aint opened a boiler up before then ide call in the experts or iff you are willing to have a nose inside then just make sure you dont damage the boiler seal on the front panel..try this link it might help you:)

ring british gas, they do a one price fix, i think its about £160, its a gamble as it may be nothing, but you may score if it needs a new fan or pcb

i take or i use to take my pcb's to my mate who fixes tv's..the only thing that goes on them is maybe a resistor or a solderd joint becomes dry and needs a resolder..its a total scam and a crying shame when people get told "its the printed circut in the boiler gone mate" seen it so many times allan

I'll pop round there and see if the fan moves.

even though the boiler's not coming firing up?

even though the boiler's not coming firing up?

it wont fire up iff the fan circut is fvked anyway

your boiler works by first turning you fan on, then the air pressure switch (diaphram) will click this telling the boiler the fan works, this then will light the boiler. i have had this lots of times on boilers one could be you fan is turning but not fast enough to trigger the pressure switch. with the electric off spin the fan and see it is very free if not dw40 it, if it is this you are looking at a new fan soon. it could also be the air pressure swith is faulty stand by your boiler get someone to turn the boiler on while you listen to the boiler and you should hear it click if you dont its the fan if you do its the switch

Right the fan is working, comes on when you turn the hot water tap and spins freely. So according to what you've said it points to the pressure switch. Before they buy a new one (found it on the net for £72 plus delivery), is there any way of testing it or even better, bypassing it to just make sure it's that? I've got to it and there are 3 wires on the switch - blue, brown and green. Am I right in saying blue is negative, brown in live and green would be the switched wire? So if I short brown and green that should fire up the boiler?

Thanks again and if there's a number I can give you a quick call on, that'd be even better :) I'll add you to MSN to see if you come on ;)

Yes remove the air tube. put it in your mouthe and suck or blow on it depending on + or - tube. This will light the boiler if calling for heat or hot water. Don't put your head near the main burner at this point as you will lose your hair when the boiler lights up lol.

PS there is a micro swich on the diverter valve could be faulty. But also the diaphram on diverter could need changing.

Does the heating run or is that fooked as well ?

PS have you an address for my invoice ? lol :hyper:

Give me a ring bud & I will talk you though it. 07775633561 I am doing fook all this evening just on this fookin web site. lol :duffer:

Do not blow to hard as you can damage the aps (air pressure switch) that may not be faulty in the first place....check if any fluff or condensation is inside the tubes.

If you find that you req any parts let me no and i will get them trade or you can pick up locally to you on my account;)

Dave

if your boiler does light when you blow the switch its not faulty

Ended up removing the pressire switch and putting a meter across the microswitch. The diaprham is working (when I blow down the pipe) as I can see it moving and the switch is clicking but the switch isn't making contact. Gonna call Curzons in the morning to get a price from them, otherwise they're on Ebay for £20 delivered.

What a brilliant place this forum is. Thanks everyone for your help and advice, you've saved a good mate of mine some money and they're absolutely skint at the minute.

Dipone you were spot on, it was the pressure switch that was faulty. Neil, thanks so much for the technical helpline! lol thanks to you guys, went and got a new pressure switch for less than £20 and it's all working fine again
