Good morning!

I heared, the knock sensor only works to max. 3500 revs???

Is that right? Has no sense to me. I thought det only happens

at high revs???

Thanks in advance!

I think the logic is that a 'bad' tank of fuel will cause det at low revs and adjust the ECU to run a knock map (retarded ignition and safety boost) instead of a standard map. Engine noise above 3K would make detonation difficult to identify by the crummy Z knock sensor, I think there are aftermarket sensors which work better at higher revs.

no..after 3500 theres to much background noise to enable the piezo dett sensor to pick dett up,dett or pinking happens when the motor has load in mid-range rpm anyway:) hth

>> I think Eric (Lymon) developed a circuit for detecting the ecu going into (or trying to go into) safety boost conditions and displaying with a warning light.

(On request) I can program this feature into our DTA chips nowadays :D

check engine light will blink on detection of detonation or once the car goes into safety boost.

>> Remember though that the det sensor only works up to 3k rpm then the ECU stops listening.

the ecu only really uses the detonation sensor signal in a small portion of the ignition map, but it "listens" always...on all rev ranges.

It has an electronic filter that will filter most (read: too much) of the engine noise above 3500 rpm, making it unsensitive to detonation.
