I read pretty much every thread about Brake pads on this forum.

Seems like the Majority are saying Ferodo DS2500 are the best pads to get with Mintex 1155 coming in 2nd, followed by a number of others like Portfields and Hawk and then a few even say EBC are good (however I don't like EBC pads).

These pads will be fitted once I rebuild my calipers.

I have 338mm Original Brembo discs.

R33 GTR Calipers

These are currently fitted with Portfields.

My main problem is Brake sqeel, I absolutely hate it. So much to say I am willing to sacrifice a little stopping power if it means less squeel.

So do I go with DS2500 or mintex ?. Do you still get squeel with both no matter how much copper ease you use with the shims ?

The problem with squeal is you can't get any anti-vibration shims for the R33 calipers, although the EBC pads come with them integrated...

I was thinking of getting some made up by a small scale engineering firm for me but haven't looked into it yet.

I forgot to say, my pads are DS2500s and they squeal like crazy.

I had DS2500s on my R34 setup - no squeel

Currently have DS2500s on ksport setup - no squeel

What's the trick then James ?.

Seems like everyone's getting squeel, what are you doing to stop it as I'll have to do it with mine.

I have found that brake squeel seems to come from Pad disc combinations. My car running R33 GTR calipers with Brembo discs and Both Ferodos DS2500's or Mintex 1155's made do squeel at all ever. + the disc ware was even and braking good.

I did put EBC replacement Discs on the front after a year or so and with new DS2500's they squeeled thier tits off. So I tried the Mintex 1155's on there (cant get 1155's for tear skyline brakes anymore) and they didn't sqeel as bad but chewed the EBC disc's to bits

Last time I got proper Brembo Disc's and no problem with squeelling

Sorry Joel tha was a typo, mine are 330's just slightly bigger than the standard 324's .

I bought my original brembo discs brand new for £350 + VAT, they're not as cheap as some of the others but I guess you're paying for the name and expecting the quality as well.

Well if they don't make mintex for the R33 GTR calipers, looks like I have no choice but to pay the £110 for the DS2500's. Are there any others that will definately give no brake squeel ?

My ds2500's squeel with my KAD big brake kit.

As Markzx said, it really is often down to the disc/pad combination....

Joely, the 3G range of discs danny at DTA sells are Brembo's machined to their own spec, if that helps.

Ah theres clearly something here, was only thinking last week when i asked a question on your thread and you ignored it, i thought then, hmm my telepethy has gone down so i'll wait. Then i thought hang on, i gave an offer of help the few days before when i showed a website giving you advice on your brake kit and that was ignored to, so clearly somehow and someway i've pissed you off, so rather than being a knob, PM me what it is and we can keep the threads in relation to their subjects.

Afterall in this case, a question was asked and i knew the answer, thats what comes with nearly 10 years experince in supplying Zed products to this forum, sozzzzzzzzzzzzz:rolleyes:

Hi Joel,

As Smithy said, the 3G discs are original Brembo casts. I've not had braided lines made up to fit a GTR caliper but I believe it has the same 10x1 connector as on the Z32 calipers so that should not be a problem. I won't be able to get this organised immediately as my brake line supplier has closed down for the month of August but can look into this first thing when they're back.

Regards,

Dan

I had Hawk pads on my standard set up and now have them on my GTR34 set up - no squeal on either. Not dusty and they work very well.

Sorry i dont want to high jack this post but does anyone know what pads are best to go with DBA5000 discs think they are Brembo casts aswell

cheers

in fact... a question that might help stu in his research that will also help me (muhahahaha) your webby states to enquire regarding the price of ds2500 front and rear for gtr brake setups... so here it is...

how much are the ds2500 brake pads front and rear for a gtr setup :D

Joel,

I know - my supplier buys Skyline pads in by the hundreds hence the good price. No VAT chargeable because DTA/Smithy's is not VAT registered.

If it was me mate, despite that Ferodo's squeel, it is not with all combinations and they are a dam good pad anyway, so i'd go with them ;)
