Just read this news on the Times website see link http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article4454274.ece

So basically it seems like the Government still have not made up their minds. We could still be hit with a big tax bill in the future if they decide to penalise owners of older "polluting" cars! Grrr. They just want to make sure they get more money in. I dont believe it is about the environment at all. Surely keeping an older car running well is better as the cost of energy involved etc in manufacturing a new car would be higher than keeping the old one runing for longer. Just think of all the transport, manufacturing etc energy and carbon used in making a car and all its components.

I cant see things getting better :( or maybe its just Monday...

It won't stop me, it will just cost me more, and for deffo, I would make sure I got my money's worth in co2 emmisions per Pound :D

I think what gets my goat is that it says NOTHING about usage...

I mean, many of our cars are used as second cars and probably do a fraction of the mileage that more "friendly" cars do... After all, we *ALL* get taxed on usage at the pump, and therefore by association on emmissions.

To be fair though, the advisory tossers who suggest that "gaz guzzlers" aren't being charged enough in my opinion are not especially concerned with the environment, to my mind they tend to be pasty-faced, shrivelled testicled, London-based, intellectual liberal tossers who want to wag a finger at cars they find "distasteful" - grow some b****cks, you :xxx:

I'll keep driving my gaz-guzzlers 'til I'm skint! No way G-Whiz.

Sorry - but this rage bubbled up as I was listening to this on the Today programme this morning - I'm just sick of it.

that'd be the governments best outcome - they look like they're doing good, and they're getting heaps of money for it!

i'm start gettin my monies worth too, i'll be using my zed all the time from now on

I just watched a bit about this on the lunchtime news and it says its the tree huggers that are putting pressure on the government by saying they aren't doing enough to cut carbon emmissions by only classing cars after 2001 and they want it to apply to all cars regardless of age.

I wonder then, even tax exempt cars should be hit if we are all going to be hit, the goverment dont care about the enviroment, all they are interested in is money.

It's not that, the thing that gets me is the fact that cars of 15 years or over only make up about 5% of the total population of cars currently on UK roads. The government should just forget it!

Does any one know how much Co2 emissions the z32 produces , didnt think there was a reading for this car is it as high as a bmw X5 for instance.

They aren't any official figures. I am sure someone can pull up their old MOT emissions test paper which you don't get anymore I don't think.
