this started yesterday redlined in first and missed out second gear no soises or crunches at all and the oil is up to full level any ideas why it wont go into second not even if i put the lever into 2nd :headvswal

 

any help much appreceated

Hi Dewi. Sorry to hear about this. Sounds like maybe a sticking hydraulic valve. Not too sure tbh, maybe the other guys on here will know more. Hope your otherwise okay.

do a diagnostic!!

dodgy speed sensor or something along those lines, i dnt know much about the autobox, just do a manual conversion :D

I don't mean to bear bad news but I had the same problem.......

 

.......redlines in first until you ease off the gas, then it changes straight into third. Shortly after that 4th went as well - the car was doing 3000rpm at 60mph as it was still in third.

 

Basically my 'box was fecked and needed a full rebuild. Cost me £1200!

 

I thought about a 2nd hand auto box or manual conversion. But in each case I would have spent between (say) £700 and £1500 inclusive of labour for a second hand gearbox of unknown origin so it could have gone wrong again very soon after!

 

At least I have an 18000 mile comprehensive warranty on my rebuild and it is now as good, if not better than new.....
