Hello,

I am new to the forum and I am about to buy a 300zx. I am looking at several (all UK) and am wondering about owners approx MPG's

Currently looking at a v6 24v auto and a twin turbo manual-all help is gratefully recieved along with any tips for things I should be looking out for on test drives.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

The auto your looking at is it a turbo or not? (obviously if its a genuine UK model then it has to be a turbo, just double check that make sure no one is having you on!)

As for economy, on a long motorway run at a steady 70 you might see towards the high 20's (I got 27mpg on a run to bristol earlier int he year in my manual)

Round town and with some enthusastic driving dont expect anymore than 15, perhaps 18 if your really light on the throttle.

Those figures are from my now converted car, was an auto originally, as an auto it was much worse, especially on the motorway, struggled to do any better than 21-22mpg.

Remeber if your looking for a UK spec, all were Long wheel base cars (2+2 with Targa Roofs) and were Twin turbo, there was a choice of manual or auto in the UK.

Anything else is an import :)

Check out the buyer FAQ pages for buying a Zed on the forum. Also if fuel econemy is a worry don't buy a Zed. The blue car in my sig was running big power, big turbos, big injectors, forged internals, ported, fancy manifolds you name it. Just check out my rides

I could still get 27 mpg at 80 mph on the motorway, but when having fun it would go down to about 8 mpg.

My SWB NA manual does about 15 mpg because I drive it hard, but taking it steady on the motorway the best I can manage is about 22 mpg because of the lower gearing

Oh Look your in west london like me and i have a nice 300zx for sale (click the link!! ):D

It wont get more than 15mpg through London!!

170 miles to 50 quid.

sensibly driven. thats what i get from my manual TT

if you drive heavy you can really polute the earth if you want tho :D

i was scetchy about getting one, due to fuel consumption.

its not too bad, when you consider the engine. but im comparing that to a 1.8 Turbo (s13)

what you drive now?

If you're buying a ZTT, fuel consumption shouldn't even be thought about, it's not the reason you buy it! It ain't gonna be good no matter how you look at it.

But on the other hand, the way I see it is you COULD buy a reasonably quick ALfa brand new - the minute you drive it off the forecourt its lost a third of its value - sell it after three years and you would have kittens at the money lost through depreciation.

You can pick up a really good used Zed from an enthusiast - you have a great chance of getting a good one if you are patient and when you come tosell it it is pretty much at the bottom of its depreciation curve - i.e. you pay running costs plus maintenance during the time you own it.

I think its an important consideration to take into account - all cars with this kind of performance will return relatively similar figures!!
