he recons his car does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds is this bull or can he not drive because i dont think my 300zx twin turbo would even come close to that

Rolling or standing start?

He should have got his power down miles quicker than you if it was a standing but if you were rolling and booted it I'd say you would have cained him! wink.gif

we were kind of rolling we were at a roundabout

I'd say 4.5 is about right.

From standing it would have been a bit different, but only upto about 60-80. smile.gif

Yeah I was wondering what the top end is on these rally road cars? Like the Evo VII and the STi's etc.

Coz I know one thing for sure and that Colin McRaes' Focus craps out at a piddly 130mph and can't cut it with the Pugs with their six speed gearboxes and better all round gearing!!! LMFAO biggrin.gif

So my argument is that if I owned a Mitsi or a Scooby I would be more than pissed off at being beaten top end on the motorway by Metro drivers and Souped up Novas.

Nice to own a real supercar I guess that's capable of nearly 200mph in road guise instead of a turbo charged school runner and supermarket wagon!!!! biggrin.gif

Sorry but I had to get that in after recently reading about someone who had a shitty experience with the Evo brigade at a recent show.

The pugs currently use 5 speed, the focus 6.

Ah well. smile.gif

Oh, and rally gearing is slightly different than its road 'counterparts'.

These subaru guys who insist on having straight line races (most of them wink.gif) are damn stupid, theres just no point at all in trying - or rather, its fun trying, but they are under false illusions about what their car is for! hehe, thats why I laugh when I see them at drag strips etc, NO NEED, hehehe.

Itll do it in 4.5 seconds, about two or three times, then his gearbox will be on the floor along with the rest of the drivetrain wink.gif heheh

Doh! Wrong way round...my mistake. biggrin.gif

hi

my mates scooby(2000 model 5 door) does 160mph(even with 5 people in) about 1000rpm under the red line then just sits there(speed limiter??)also as a matter of interest mine says 160mph aswell when i give him the middle finger and just pull away

this don't half piss him off!! smile.gif smile.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

---neil---

that'll most likely be the 155 limiter, but with a dodgy speedo reading i reckon... I doubt it would go much higher anyway, they are so damn ugly anyway, who wants one.

From experience of racing and driving scoobies and EVOs, their top end (as in from 100 up) isn't great. I remember being driven in an evo6 and thinking it was the quickest thing ever until it reached about 80 when my old 944 turbo sailed past it with my friend waving out the window smile.gif

I played with a wrx sti thing a little while ago. He had me from the lights onto a DC but once the zed had built the speed up I left him behind big time was quite amusing. I thought I was going to get hammered but no, the zed obliterated the scooby completely.

------------------

rock_star.gif

i will say one thing though his scooby is a lot quicker than the old wrx's i went to see him last night and he gave no excuse and done nothing but praise the 12 year old 300 when i left his house i pulled up at a set of traffic lights and there was this guy drooling over my Z in a k plate wrx and then before he knew it he was reading my hks sticker on the rear of my car

the down side is that i always wanted a wrx but now i know i could never want one again

I've driven the new STI and its seriously quick. Certainly faster than a stock Z to 60. Even if your Z was a modded there is no way it would walk away from a properly driven STI "as if it was parked". Either he wasnt trying or he was being careful with his £27k investment! imho

The fact is there is so little between fast cars these days that you have to get to mad speeds on public roads to see the difference.

A stock STI should hit the ton in 13.5 and a stock Z in about 14.5. Your Z tested on the RR at 280+ and weighs 1560kg. STI has stock 262 and 1400kg. Sure the Z probably has it from 100 on but..

The other explanation like in many "races" is the 2 second jump you can surprise someone with before they realise you are racing them. Then unless they are in a serious motor that can take back the 2 seconds and then take off another 2 before 100 you've got them. Same works in reverse when somebody gets the jump on you and you think my Zs got no poke today when you cant catch them. Just my reality check for the day plus eventually Mr P catches up with you and and!

Very good point mate! wink.gif

It's all in the start, you don't get the power down cleanly or hesitate for a second and you're out of it.

there was no 2 second delays here we were both rolling at about 20mph i was in front and thinking back the reason i would have left him in 3rd was because i missed 3rd on the first attempt which would have made him back of and then when i hit 3rd he wouldnt of been on the throttle but i have also driven his car and to be honest its quick but theres a lot of turbo lag compared with my Z but he reckons i was pulling away every time he had to change gear

WillieO you can give a Scooby a 5 sec start and you WILL STILL NAIL IT WITH EASE after 100mph,no contest.

KEEP IT SIDEWAYS;).

A lot of it is a question of aerodynamics. At higher speeds a Z will easily beat a pug nosed scooby.

As an aside I recently drove a 350bhp hks modded evo IV and it ran out of steam at 140mph even with the water spray on!

Just my point. You have to get to mad speeds to see the differences - assuming you agree that 100+ on public roads is just mad!

I'm a Z man but I was seriously impressed with the way the STI goes and stops and how it feels. The 6 speed box keeps the revs up and you flick through the gears so fast. I did not seem that laggy either.

Course it'll never match a Z for looks and style but each is special in their own ways.

Anyway SEMCO - get it on up to Crail and do the drag strip with your mate!

Willie

ive burnt my clutch out but once thats fixed and i get my timing belt i will get him to take it up (as long as its dry) and blow him away up the strip do you go to crail willie?

Not yet but I'll come up to watch you!

My neighbour took his last Scooby up but not his latest one yet.

I could be tempted but mine is with the porridge type clutch (auto) and anyway I'm a scaredy cat!
