Went for a spin today with my mate in my 300ZX I gave it a foot full and it went as usual like Shite Off a Shovel then all of a sudden at full revs it lost all power I took my foot off and back on and the power was back full bore. This happened twice with no other symptoms of any problems??? Its not a limiter as that is not present.

Any ideas what might make this happen please?

Mines done this twice now! Sounds really weird doesnt it, not done it for about 3 months. Im interested if anyone has any ideas what could cause this? Its almost like a fuel cut happened to me at around 6500rpm.

Boost leak ??

if it were a boost leak youd have thouht it would do it more of the time, mines only ever done it twice. Once in the isle of man, and once on my private local test track, (aka the bypass hehe)

Have seen it various times on differrent z32's. Very intermittent, and usually traced to a Failing MAF or failing PTU

fuel pressure possibly?/fuel pump? i know its not the same but i owned a crx which had a same problem, turned out to be fuel system, i replaced fuel pump relay, fuel pump and fuel filter in the end and all was well!

a chip does'nt remove the limiter vinn it only raises it so you might of bounced off the limiter in your quest for impressing the mate.....its normal mate as i do it all the time:)

LOL My mate is impressed just by the car alone Bri. He has driven it and knows what its like so nothing to prove there  I often give the old girl a blast when it warms up especially if I am using Quavey's private road ;);) if I recall it was around 6000 revs and it felt like a total loss of power for just a split second on putting my foot down it went all the way without a blink and then about 5 mins later it did it again. I will check the MAF and make sure also that everything in that region is as it should be. I aint worried because I only give it some now and again so fook it as long as it dont get any worst I will leave it alone until after JAE as I have plenty of other things left to get sorted.

Thanks everyone

PS.BTW Bri it aint chipped as such mate. The ECU is an IMPUL item and is maxed out and can't be chipped.

Had the same thing and have now discovered that my zed doesnt like being driven in heavy downpours, as im running a Blitz induction kit, traced it to a slightly damp maf, caused by me not having the plastic shroud that protects the area.

A quick clean with contact cleaner and the job was sorted, made a hell of a difference.

the standed zed has a preset limit and either a chip or perfomance ecu like your impul or mine mines raise the rpm limit...conzult will tell you what the limiter is mate,i know if i hit mine its like from max power to a brick wall with loads of popping sounds from the zorst :D

MIine did it on the motorway in rain the other night, found a pipe had split going to my dump valve so don't think it was rain related

I have not had any probs since I first posted this thread. Its like one of those magical mystical problems that fix them selves :D

I had this problem some years ago......

I had a HKS induction kit fitted and the foam filter was old and breaking up. When i give it full throttle, the air being sucked in to the filter was breaking little pieces of the foam of and sticking to the wire in the MAF, thus, the MAF was unable to read the airflow for the ECU and the ECU cutting power to the engine, only for a split second, then back to normal. Changed the foam filter and never happened again.

HTH.
