Does anyone know what road tax we will be paying next year?

It's going to be based on CO2 emissions and will be up to £440 per year!

What are the emission figures for an N/A and a TT?

There is a little known loophole within the taxation rules regarding imports, it is based on the MFR date BUT only if there are available co2 emission data values. For the z32 there is no "confirmed" (by that means accepted) values for its co2 emission, so it could not ever be re classified from its "high band" tax that it is (Remember since they are all pre march 01 (even ones considered registered after then of course))

So all Z32's rely on the above or below 1549cc old style rules.

However the little loophole affects some later cars which for some reason still do not have proper data for them (only imports) some mitsubishi evos, although registered after a certain date and are UK cars (but through such small numbers are actually imports, weird i know!) are seen on the emissions database as un classified so are therefore under the old rules, because there was no emission data for them when they were registered by rallyart UK. I have a friend with such a car, his tax is the same as mine, yet another car on his OC which is literally weeks newer is almost double. Confirmed from the reg plates by DVLA!

However, i have to say it "here we go again" ANOTHER thread about car tax, it cannot change for our cars (other than be increasing by a small amount) If it were to rocket up then all older vehicles with anything larger than 1549cc would pay a huge amount which is unfair. (Take my xsara, because its pre march 01 it comes under the old rules, so £200 a year ish. Under the new rules, same car but on an 51 plate say, the yearly tax was like £145) So for a car that should really be £145, if they made it £400 it would be really really unfair!

One good thing about the car tax rules are that a car cannot be reclassified in a taxband once it has originally recieved a band. So hence why although prices of the band can change, a car cannot actually jump bands (unless it was made AFTER the rules were in place)

This could actually help increase the values of the cars. People are going to want to be buying sports cars without the added value of increased road tax. Something that our cars can get away with. :)

This is parkers link, we are paying standard

We are if Registered within those dates - BUT mine is Registered Aug 2006?

Just written to my local MP.

I will get the list of all MPs email addresses for you if anyone wants to give polite vent to our feelings. I'm sure that they don't read any of our posts they're too busy choosing new kitchens from the John Lewis list..............

Remember that New Labour is the most spiteful, petty, money grabbing, loop-hole plugging bunch of shysters since the Russian Revolution. Ask any Accountant what they've done to 'avoidance schemes' in the last 10 years.

If they think for a second that you have anything left in life to grin about they will put their slimy fingers even further into your pockets whilst staring you in the eyes and acting like they are saving the planet. A bigger con I've never seen - and we lie back............

i thought the same dave, but simi are saying the opposite, richard from tralee who works in a nissan garage said they were informed the same, and if its not that way it will be after the budget in dec, either way its a lotta dosh

Yea, naturally Ireland being the country it is, SIMI press release on it was wrong, the legislation is here https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/pdf/faqs_co2_en.pdf which clearly states it only applies to new cars. Of all the people to get it wrong SIMI have really shot the motor industry in the foot.

what did you pay for tax last year? Ive already said its on the MFR date, not the registration date.

Besides, your car wont and cant have an 06 plate on it... remember its illegal to make a car look newer than it is. So yours will have a G or K or an M plate or somthing like that on it.

So true.....

.......what pisses me off is the back-dating for cars registered between 2001 and 2006. My SLK350 is a January 2006, currently in band F as it is registered pre 23 March 2006; with the road tax at £210 p/a. That was deliberate when I bought it BTW;)

But when the new rules come in, instead of applying it to new cars, they are removing the "March '06" date and going back to those registered after March 2001. So next year my daily driver will be in band K and the tax will increase to £300; then in 2010 it will be in band L and I'll have to shell out £400.

Not only that, but it's value will probably plummet as so one will buy a second hand one because they won't want to pay the tax.

Environmental concerns my arse - it's just a blatant tax on wealth:mac1:

are you sure that the higher bands dont appy to new cars, as in 08 and 09 reg cars for example. Im almost positive that your car cannnot change from its current band F, cars cannot be reclassified im poisitive of it.

Do check for me because id be interested to know, as far as i was aware it was a very old law that car tax could not be backdated in anyway.

I've fooled them my plate is dateless Irish !!! (would have been an L - so maybe I've squeezed through................

See how they brainwash us though? I just filled up with 99RON - the price was £62 but I got 5p p/litre off at Tesco's and thought I'd won the Lottery!! Forgetting that I just put another £40 tax into that stomach churning Chancellors greasy palms. Shivers in disgust as I type.

hahaha ah im so glad im normally away from home these days... I spend like £20 a week in my zed these days, about of largest cost a week at the moment since im never at home to spend any money!

But it's all a matter of relativity. Your mpg is probably less than mine as you are always driving on cold for a long time. Plus you don't get the same ratio of pleasure as someone who does 100 miles a week (which I don't do as I only walk 3 metres to work).

Taken to it's conclusion if you never drove your Zed then you'd be laughing all the way to the bank except, of course, you wouldn't be a Zed user.

As I say it's all relative me ol' mate.

i say the opposite, when i did use it everyday it got boring, i now look forward to going home to drive it!

However i dont deny that my mpg figure will be lower.. i do actually "use" the old girl, phenominal difference to 70bhp van!

Positive mate.......

I used Peranaman's link to the Parkers website (below). As you can see, all Merc SLK350s registered pre 23/3/06 switch to band K next April, then in April 2010 all year's cars are in the same band regardless of age with the tax going uo to £400.

That's why it's wrong - this car hating tax everything government has effectively backdated the increases:mad:
