I need to test a few good known parts ie maf, ptu, idle valve to isolate my running problem. Hoping its not the o2 sensors.

Cars running a tad rich on idle and very lump when pulling off, wants to cut out, oh i also noticed it cuts out while driving if you hold in the clutch and idles irratic.

So help would be apprieceiated and all time&costs covered.

Maybe i could lend a hand with installing a mod you have bought or with a problem your car has, just a thought.

I would take the car back to scott but its too far away and dont fancy having it driven there in its current state, freshly rebuilt and all.

what 555's/chip have you got?

Its a "get you started chip" from andyp, im still to ask him a couple questions.

I removed the tps sensor plug the one with the 3 wires and the car improved alot, no way as much hesitation but still up and down idle and bit of black smoke when you i rev it.

The o2 sensor wires look brand on both sides new as i think they were replaced not long ago but who knows.

The main problem is having it mapped but i cant before the engne in run in so im truelly PISSED OFF to the max.

scotts is not a short drive either grrrrrrr

was sw1 having simliar problems?

I think I have a series one PTU you could borrow. I live in Aylesbury......

TBH i doubt its the ptu but thanks mark il keep that in mind.

OOPs sorry for double post :(

its not mapped for a different air intake setup to yours is it? IE dual MAF etc?

I was thinking that too, il wait for andyp's reply.

I also noticed my aftermarket boost gauge flutters rapidly on dle but not when revved? make any sense or difference at all?

Hi Jimmy,

I'm not having the sam problems as you. The problem I had which I only discovered at the RR is that adjustable FPR has not been set up yet so I'm running really lean (as you can see by my dynograph). I also had a running in chip which I got from Andy P however mine is an original Ash Spec Stage 7 for Doolz twin pop and 555's. I have a feeling this chip that I have is only mapped to about 12 - 14 psi. Whih is the reason I didn't take it any higher on the RR.

I'm just waiting for JD to get back to me about mapping mine. Hopefully he will be able to squeeze me in in the near future as I'm fully run in and want to see what the car can do.

Do you not have anyone near you with a Conzult. We hecked mine over at the RR but apart form the TPS being a little high, everything else was spot on.

So maybe the chip i have is same as yours?

closest person with consult is wozzer or andyp, wozzer is off to holland and i dont wanna hassle anyone.

If this chip is for dual intake then it could be the reason for running rich, But this still doesnt help with the idle problem, im hoping that both are interlinked somehow.

mate, I'd be happy to come and help if you let me know what I can do! I'm a bit busy the next few weekend but may have the odd day so feel free to give me a call...you have my number!

Thanks mate, might wanna try out your tps and maf :D

Give us the engine spec again bud and what brand the injectors are and if new or second hand.

start at the begining and we may find the answer ;)

Basic engine spec:

Blitz induction filter

Decat free flow full exhaust present when i purchased the car!!!

nismo 555's second hand flowed and tested to 555cc (one injector flowed to 505cc)

Before rebuild the car used to hesitate when you blip the throttle but no way as much as it does now, it also used to idle fine.

Rightyo, the symtoms to me are very classic for a a minor boost leak. I know you mentioned before about testing for leaks, however leaks can on some occassions be missed. If the car ran pretty much fine before the build and the only addidtion is the induction and injectors, then it should run fine again.

Andy's chips have been around for a long time and the car should run great, mapping will and should only improve performance of the engine, not the actual day to day running of things.

Did you see scott do a boost leak test ? do you have a tester ? someone around your way should have one, if not pumped up to the correct pressure, a small leak will not really be heard or seen.

Double check around the blitz cone, has the gasket been used ? are the securing nuts onto the MAF tightend up, is the MAF secure in it's hosing, is the hosing above it secured properly to the metal pipework. Have you the stock re circs in place ? are these secure ? if you have BOV's, are the plugs secure.

Finally it's not uncommon for a garage to misplace a hose or put it on the wrong connection, there are plenty of them and though scott is am sure a great mechanic, a zed specialst instantly knows what goes where and how without even thinking about, so also check those are correct. My money is a leak though ;)

Thanks smithy, so you recon with all the sypmtoms, running rich, poor idle and hesitation its a leak!!!

right il make a boost leak tester 2mow and give it a proper go what psi do you recon i should pressurise it to?

Scott said there was a very very slight air leak coming from near the offside intercooler, but said it was only very very slight and wont make a difference!!!!! hopefully he is wrong and this is the cause of the problem.

But if it isnt? what else would cause these symptoms?

Money is deffo on a leak mate, yep it causes engine stall, excess smoke usually black and in some cases when driving it seems to be holding back at a certain point, usually higher up the rev range.

As for how much PSI, not too sure as i always have zedworld test mine for me, interesting to watch how they spot the little fookers, lol

Someone here must know though.

I know Vince and Vijay do their own, so try those guys.

piece of piss making one up. just got to get my hands on an old tyre valve :D

il go up to 2psi i recon. I really hope its an air leak ive spent thousands on this in the last couple months.

Il keep you posted and please feel free to post anything you may have forgotten or something that comes to mind. it all helps :D

Oh on elast thing :D there arn't any warning lights on the dash that are lit up or the electric sub fan isn't on when the engine is running is it ?

no no, theres no warning lights up, fan is fine water temp senor is new and connection is fine.

here lemme brake it down for everyone.

-idles up and down around 750-1000 sometimes alot worse and wants to cut out.

-pulling off is near impossible without stalling.

-noticed the engine cut out while driving and pressing in the clutch.

-splutters when you blip the throttle on idle. (hesitates)

-coked up plugs

-if left to idle for a minute then you blip the throttle you get black smoke from exhaust.

-hesitation is reduced if tps is unplugged.

I also noticed that the engine is not getting up to temp, should of changed thermostat!!! dang it :( although only test drove around the block a couple times and left to idle for a few minutes. it did however get to temp on the way back from southend.

Sound like yours has the exact same symptoms as mine and I know mine has an air leak somewhere cause I can hear it whistling when you apply throttle :)

Vern

Are you sure its firing on all 6 cylinders? Rough idle and engine stumble can also point towards a misfire. How severe is the black smoke.?

Jimmer it Doesnt sound like a misfire.

the Black smoke is not that bad, its obvious when you leave it to idle for a while then press the throttle.

FPR or leaking fuel rail may be another culprit, that injector at 505 sounds a bit out of spec?

Theres no scent of the smell of fuel anywhere, do you think it would smell of fuel if iit was leaking?

Well when i had the injectors flowed tested the guys said its common for one injector to be slightly out on the larger size ones. but hay maybe thats the prob then.

I havent ruled out the fpr yet so thats probably another thing to look at.

Just to clarify I mean the seals on the rail not seating properly and leaking fuel.

With regard to that one injector I would be unhappy using that on my car!
