after reading a few car mags recently ive come to the conclusion for nissan to palm us off with 280 bhp from a 3 litre 24 valve twin turbocharged engine is totally pathetic:( work on the basis that 100bhp per litre is easly obtainable by most 4 valve per bore motors so why the hell did we get short changed in that department and working on that basis.. wtf are the turbos for as they aint earning there keep in these motors thats for sure:confused:

The 280/300 power level was what the 300zx came out with is that is what Nissan wanted for the performance figures it wanted to achieve for many reasons.

The motor is effectively detuned to that level....plus most other Turbocharged jap cars of the era run higher boost out of the box to start with.

The stock VG30DETT makes more power and torque than other 6cylinder turbocharged competitors of the 90's on the same boost levels.

100 bhp/litre is achievable on High revving variable valve timing 4-pots as a high peak power output. They dont have half the power they would otherwise have in their lower and mid rev range.

Also, 100bhp per litre is much easier in a small engine, than it is in a larger engine. (much easier to get 200hp out of a 2.0 than it is to get 400hp out of a 4.0)

its good. it means you can increase the power easily and also the stock engines will last longer, would it not, because they're not being pushed as hard??

also the fact that its 25 year old technology!

There wernt many cars that had engines with as high output per litre as the 300zx back in 1989, certainly not when the motor was developed for MID4!
