Anyone here listen to 'Dream Theater'?

Just dug out some old albums I used to listen to and 2 of them were Dream Theater. I dunno why I stopped listening to these, just realised how good they are!

Awsome guitar and tunes!!

Might get my Joe Satriani albums out now as it's got me into loud guitar now!!

One of my favorite bands ever.

And Joe S omg.. Up in the sky what a song!!!!

Yep, they're awesome. Started listening to them when they released 'Awake'. Benn listening to them ever since.

Also, rumour is that they will be on the next Guitar Hero game (World Tour). Nothing like rocking out to you favourite bands!

Hi Si...

Just checked on Limewire and there 100's of tracks... what can you recommend as a sampler ?

heheh. for a start, i'd recommend not using Limewire!

Great tracks include:

Scarred

Innocence Faded

Pull Me Under

Another Day

Take The Time

Metropolis

or, if you want value for money:

A Change of Seasons

The Big Medley

The guitarist is John Petrucci (spelling??)

Definately one of the best bands ever. Pioneers of their particular genre... I particluarly like it when out of knowhere the key and tempo of a song completely changes sometimes more than once in a song...they do tend to be a little long winded though IMHO. Genius all the way however.

Average imitators of a previous late 70's genre. Good tight bad band but awefull vocal. Joe Satriani IMO was just a bit tedius. Yep he can wibble up and down the fret board as good as most acomplished Jaz guitarist, but all a bit self serving and repetitive. A bit like listening to the Carlos Santana and Ravi Shakti Albums. The fastest fingers in the west.

Looks like i was wrong, Stevie was with WhiteSnake for a fair old while.

And with Dave Lee Roth before that, I think - in fact, think he was a pupil of Joe Satriani.

Like a bit of Dream Theater myself - also in a similar vein, ever tried the melodic tones of George Lynch from "Dokken" - Mr Scary... a particular favourite of mine...

CheerZ,

JB.

A lot of music in that genre is a bit to "widdly", a bit too much like ego masturbation, for my liking...I appreciate the skill but, for me, it overpowers the immediacy of any song that was originally there. As for guitar geniuses, this guy, Matt Marriott, a friend of a friend of a friend, has blown me away: no electric guitar, no effects, just him using his acoustic in ways that will blow your mind:

It's not a bit like ego masturbation. It is ego masturbation. Having been the front man and one of the song writers for sveral bands I kinda have this need to throttle most lead giutarists that don't stick with the program. Anf most don't which is why most lead guitarists that go solo make widdly diddly albums. A bit like listening to Irish folk music. One or 2 songs (I use the word song at its loosest) is ok but a whole night of the stuff! No wonder they were killing each other.:rofl::rofl:

Who's the main guy from dragonforce....the short oriental dude...not that guys can play.... Again a little to widdly for my pallet, but man can his fingers move.
