This is now becoming a real pain and i',m not enjoying driving the car!!!!!!

 

So far this is what i've checked

 

1.All pistons in the calipers move freely.

2.Both front discs have been skimmed.

3.As they were skimmed no fault with wheel bearings.

4.Loosend the two bolts on the end of the tension rods while the car was jacked up, lowered it onto the ground then tightened them up again.

5.Both front wheels were balanced this morning.

 

The car still vibrates through the steering wheel although not as bad now and only from about 60mph upwards.......

 

Anyone got any other radical ideas or does anyone know of a good mechanic in the London area that could help????

have you inspected the steering u/j's and rack bushings?

Not yet where abouts are they????

How about the front ball joints or front top mounts?

 

Have you had the wheel allignment checked and adjusted? - it's very easy for a tyre-fitter monkey to get it wrong!

 

I've just had rose jointed tension rods fitted (the old bushes were shot causing vibration whilst braking) and a full 4 wheel allignment set-up. The car is transformed - it's now so much better and the steering is spot on!

I did have judder when braking due to worn tension rod bushes. However the Nissan ones are around £45 each + vat, then you have the labour to press out the old bushes and re-fit the new ones! Plus both Luke and Mike Feeney both told be there was a long wait for decent poly bushes.

 

So I ended up with these and they have solved the problem. That and a full 4 wheel allignment afterwards.

I have already put new poly bushes in but i'm guessing with these you don't need any bushes as they are all one unit?

 

Did you have to get the 4 wheel alignment set up properly before the judder dissapeared????

 

They look pretty easy to fit did you do them yourself?

I already had slight judder on braking. Then I needed an inner and outer HICAS joint replacing for my MOT - after which the wheel allignment needed resetting.

 

Since I knew the tension rod bushes were shot, I bought the new rods ready for fitting before I had the allignment done. Afterall there was no point having the allignment done and then replacing the tension rods later only to waste money on a re-allignment!

 

I got the garage to do the tension rods and a 4-wheel allignment set up - DS Automotives in Aylesbury; who are Japanese car specialists. I suppose I could have replaced the rods myself - they must be easy as I was charged less than an hour's labour for fitting them!
