Few CC questions.

Do early Z32s come with the same CC ECUs than the really late ones with the airbags?

Also, does anyone know if the wires are the same from the column on both types?

Thanks

Quite a few didn't. Seemingly a rare option on airbag models. Neither GrahamS or Steve-300zx have CC on theirs.

from what iove gathered about the CC in the z32 there were 3 different CC ECUs or ASCD (Auto Speed Control Device). Now the 89 - 92 models had a 16 bit ECU with a 18 pin connector and then the 92+ models had a 32 bit ECU with a 20 pin connector. Ive discovered recently there was the there was a third part number for the ASCD but i dont know if its no different to the 92 + ECU. I currently have a 89 - 92 18 pin ASCD ECU in my zed now (came with the car) and i was lucky enough to get a 92+ 20 pin ECu but i have no way to connect it atm. Im hoping i can one day;).

The controls do the same thing though don't they? IE, the CC stalk has 'set' 'cancel' +/-speed just the same as the steering wheel buttons?

I have a horrible feeling that this thing won't fit.

Here are photos of both types. Sure they are LHD, but look how much bigger the shroud is compared to the shroud of the non-airbag model. It won't fit as the hub will be in the way.

Any thoughts on this?

Unless you have a shroud and can measure S1 vs airbag CC. Photos would be good.

Yes and ive recently got all the part numbers for the RHD version of the Stalk CC controls. Im just not sure if its swapable on a pre 94 model CC system.

Is there any reason why you think it might not? I guess as long as the connector is the same, then it should work as all they are are switches.

I am more concerned about general fitment. I have a feeling the shroud is longer on the airbag model (longer steering column?) which means it won't fit the non-airbag model.

...not sure if you can check, but at the part numbers for the shroud on pre-94 models the same as +94 models without cruise control option?

I dont think so. From what Nissan fast shows me the CC stork fits on the same Part as the Indicator stork does and as its on the opposite side of the steering column it wouldnt need to be any longer.

This pix from a 2k model shows no extension of the steering column and plenty of room for a CC stork.

I think the reason I am thinking the column shroud is longer is because the steering wheel needs to sit further toward the driver due to the fitment of the airbag. So it would still apear that the stalks would sit the same distance to the wheel, but they'd be further away from the dash...if that makes sense.

Not really no. Sorry mate. Not sure what the airbag stuff looks like. That just shows me the connectors for the horn push and also the airbag unit itself.

Unfortunately, thats all the evidence i have on this topic atm. Im going to try and order the CC steering column covers for the Stork and see if there is any difference. Ill let you know as soon as i find some hard evidence Si.

I think I'll be letting you know even sooner as I am supposed to be collecting a set tonight. I'll post up my findings.

Cheers for your help anyway. :)

Ok, unfortunately, the column shroud is longer than the early one, so unless you're going to change the column and ignition, then it's not going to work. I for one can't be bothered to do all that. I'm going to mount the buttons on the side of the shroud and recess them so it looks as factory-fit as possible. Not the best location, but there aren't really many places to fit the button pad.

Maybe on the centre consol. Not really ideal, but there's nowhere else to put it and I don't like the aftermarket steering wheel hornpush adaptor ones at all.
