Turbos seals gone or worse? I had the exhausts done, was on the way home and i just had a huge amount of smoke trail, it looked like i was on the dirt road, at traffic lights i couldn't see the car behind or anything.

Can someone please suggest what it is?

Thanks for looking

*Edit: Smoke is extremely bad out of the left one, and a tiny bit on the right one

id say that was more blue to be honest.

However it could well be just oil in the exhausts? WHere were they from? Brand new? If they were second hand they could be full of oil.... i had that! Shit me up big style lol

Have you done a decat?

hard to tell colour as the smoke over the car is white. wouldnt turbo rear seals be blue smoke - white may be something like head gasket

It's probably exhaust putty they use for gasket, the zorsts get very hot and it will smoke until it burns off. If it still does it in 50 miles then you have a problem.

Wow it might just be there, exhausts are second hand from paul, it could be oil as the oil filter was changed earier, i will check the oil, and start the car up from cold.

If the car is cold and there is no smoke what does that mean?

I got this problem at the moment. Mines blue deffo oil. Bit worried as its engine number 2. Only seems to happen though after driving 15-20 mins then i stop in traffic etc. It seems to be when im on a forward facing slop!!??

it means that the smoke is more than likely crap burning up in the exhausts, if they are second hand there could be crap in them, also as already said exhaust putty and all that

Does it still boost okay and seem the same power?

i had the same when i had my used exhausts put on thought the car was on fire at first then after 30+ miles no smoke.

Same power boost is fine, i did do 40 miles from pauls today thou so surely that would burn the crap

Car is still hot so i will have to wait until it is cold

depends on how gruby there hands were when fitting sure it will be fine

Well my car has only done 51K, and it was looked after well, for the turbos to start smoking as soon as the exhausts were put on means that the turbo seals might of un sealed or like you said crap in the exhaust, i hope it is crap in the exhaust as i NEVER had any white / black or any colour out of the exhausts when they were standard. So im sure it is crap or oil inside them still, i will start her up tonight when she is cold and see if smoke comes out straight away or if it takes longer than 10 seconds etc. Thanks for the help so far guys :)

Question has been asked many times Murt, did you decat?

Crap would have burnt off after about 10 mins of driving.

again Decat...? 3rd time lucky ;)

If it did die from a de-cat then were going to have to start a sticky thread entitled "what happens when i decat my 300zx on its original turbos" and links to all of the "my cars just started smoking" threads so people LEARN!

Awwww....noo, murt :( ok, fingers crossed for you that its nothing serious...

No he did'nt decat. Still has the original 3 (UK) cats in place.

It was a used cat-back exhaust....which as said would suggest oil in the exhaust from previous car, but im 99% sure the car it came of did not smoke. :(

See you tomorrow murt if your bringing it over for Paul to look at?

Hope nothing serious murt, thats why i wont change exhaust etc...if it aint broke, dont break it.....:( do remember seeing oil in pipes that shouldnt be when fitting dump valves...hope its not all linked....

Ok guys great news, left her running for a good 2 mins plus. No smoke on start up, so i guess its smoke when the car is hot, which i take it is crap in the exhaust, the car was chipped sunday and had the exhausts done yesterday, the smoke ONLY appears when driving it at idle temp, which means to me it is burning off oil in the exhaust??? Thanks

Sounds like it could be rear seal failure on the turbo, it's fine when it's cold on idle but soon as the engine reaches temp it smokes. Does it smell like burning oil?

The smoke is a very light blue colour and not dark like burnt oil.

Yep its fine when it is cold, then once reaching idle temp i think it smokes, i will find out soon when i go out for a test drive, the more i put my foot down the more smoke, i think it is white / light blue colour
