As above is there anything I can adjust to stop my clutch slipping? It is fairly new so dont understand why its slipping already....it is a stage 2 XTD Clutch and new lightened fly-wheel. It generally does it in 5th when I am driving it, but when Dave drives it hard it slips in 3rd, 4th n 5th i think and stinks.... Is it just a case of a crap clutch or what? when first installed it was stinking and slipping a bit then settled down after 500 miles or so now slipping again, shall i change it again or anything I can try to adjust?:(

Mark, are you 100% sure about the Nippon/XTD relation ? ....as it seems to be widely regarded that these are "ebay special" Chinese/Korean manufactured clutches. I've only ever seem then for sale on ebay and they sell for about £70 for a complete uprated clutch kit

Yes the ones bought from XTD themselves in the states. I still have the garentee for the last one i bought and it says Nipon all over it + the Garentee states that all XTD clutch friction plates are made and manufactered some place in the US apart from clutches made for certain Japanese models. It states that the Nissan 300zx and the skyline and a couple of mitsubishi and toyota are all made by sister company Nipon racing in Japan. The backing/ thrust plates are remanufactures from OEM with stronger forks

The problem with many bought od Ebay is that they are all out of date ex stock. A clutch only has a limited life span if it is not used as the compunds start to break down. I know that Exedy UK have issued a statement that the clutches being offered on Ebay are not covered by Exedy warrenty because they are all out of date. Speak to Vinz about it. He bought a Carbon Carbon alloy clutch like mine from a Ebay trader and it was crap.

luckely my mate Dave at dp is the UK autherise retailer and got Steve at Exedy Europe to honour a warrenty on the clutch. which turned out to be eleven years old when a clutch has only got a 4 year shelf life.

Like brake pads they are the same. Once fitted and cooked the compounds fuse together and will last for many years but they only have four years shelf life befire the compounds start to break down. After that no amount of cooking will make it work properly.

Genuine XTD clutches are about £80 for the friction plate alone and complete with thrust plate and bearing they retail at about £170. Which is cheep. Also Z1's own clutches are XTD clutches so if they are confident to use them and put their name on them they feel they are good enough.

I paid over £200 for mine

I think they are crap clutches, never felt good when first fitted really.

Standard OEM will do the job me thinks

Ye as you say it has never felt new:(

yes, but that included Lightweight flywheel too for that price.

You can usually expect to pay £300-£500 for an uprated street clutch and £300-£500 for a lightweight flywheel on top, in the UK.

That makes sense. Unfortunatly it seems that most are now bought on ebay and these out of date examples are ruining the brand reputation.

when I had problems with an uprated clutch i replaced the slave cylinder for a new one , also replaced the seals in the master cylinder, costs about £70ish for the parts and bleed fully a few times and job done.

I have a 6 puk XTD clutch/flywheel bought from the states from ebay.

Is it one from Jed. Autherised XTD dealer? How much did you pay and did it come with the warrenty and the XTD and Nippon Racing stickers

mine had nippon slapped all over it, which suprised me to be honest!

ALl over the seals and boxes when the set arrived, so no doubt about that.

Mine must be an unballanced flywheel then if thats also been reported, oh well!
