Im off to america for 7 weeks and will be buying a few things while out there (Zed parts) i wont be spending over $1000:D

whats the procedure for bringing goods back from usa?

The customs/duty etc?

will i have to declare them at the airport?

How much will i be charged and is there any cheeky way around it?

i just came back from the states with a lot of monies worth of watches for me and some jewellrey i got for the wife, when i got to gatwick i had them out to declare them but there was not one person at customs to declare them too... so its upto you really, have them in a seperate bag ready to declare but i wouldnt bank on having anyone there to show them too.

oh and the gift thing wont work these days either as anything over the value of £18 is no longer allowed as a gift

What are you bringing back? Remember there are size and weight restrictions. I've always got the stuff and mailed it back to myself. When I went to pick up my 99-spec rear spoiler from IonicZ in San Diego, I just posted it with USPS after I drove up to Long Beach. Was so big that I couldn't have taken it on the plane.

Right im thinking of bringing back some downpipes, water injection system, intercoolers, brake discs. quite bulky bits :(so looks like i need a plan really.

I Was thinking of sending them back through postage but would i be saving money that way? Would there be any point?

That lot will weight a ton. USPS probably won't take it. You certainly won't get that onto a plane! Without paying a huge surchange and with that lot, you'll certainly get stopped by customs to be asked what it is. Looks like it'll be courier service only I think.

dam it.

right what if i post it all in one go to my home address from a us post office?

USPS is the post office mate.

Biggest point being is the weight, are yer really gona save that much in buying discs and down pipes from the US ? both quite cheap in the UK anyway's, rest of the stuff would be okayish to send USPS.

You have 2 choices with them, international priorty takes around 7 days or the slow boat to china via sea and takes approx 3 weeks!

Home address or business makes no odds, parcel force decide if taxes/duties are due and then usually add a 10 quid surcharge for delivering it.

Mark the value down at your own risk though.

Personally i'd get yer coolers and water injection and stick em in the case, though again consider the suitcases get thrown onto planes etc.

Think il just have a go with the water injection and coolers and leave the rest til later.

So if i declare the goods i buy whats the rates then?

on another note ha anyone seen those amz downpipes on the us forum store? $175 they any good?

Wost case scenario is to allow 21% for import duty and VAT, add that to the cost of what yer buying and if still bargain, then buy em!

Well might work out ok, il do some number crunching then.

Thing is im travelling with around 10 people so maybe they could shuv a disc or two in their suitcase haha maybe not :D

Forget discs, just too damn heavy. Electronic stuff works out quite well, nice and small, good value, fits in the suitcase etc. Just make sure it doesn't look like a bomb otherwise your suitcase will get opened after the-ray !!!

I want one of those robot vacuum cleaners if you have some space - they're about 25% cheaper over there ! :D

  • Author

robot vacume cleaners? im going to buy 10 sets of everything and sell them here to you lot :D if only it were that easy.

I might however stick a downpipe in each persons bag or wrap one brake disc to a snare the other to a hi hat and the intercoolers to a keyboard that might work.......

dont know if it will work but you could always try and say there second hand items which have been passed to you from a friend as he no longer needs them and that you havent paid for them, just make sure the bits dont look to shiny

worth a try

1. Dont put any metal goods in your shoes, they dont like that

2. Dont stick them in a rucksack, they wont like that either.

Best way to protect your intercoolers is to wrap them in a copy of the Koran!!!

Good Luck!!

Well dont they have to prove it and say its not

Fas

Customs don't have to prove anything, they are a law unto themselves.

It is up to you to prove how much you paid otherwise they will probably look it up and get the most expensive price etc. You run the risk of having it conviscated.

Are brake disks that much cheaper that it is worth paying the excess baggage that you are bound to end up paying bringing them back?
