Has anybody here owned or driven one ? There`s a fabulous-looking metallic blue and white one in my street ( along with a few "ordinary" Coopers ) . They`re not cheap , but cheaper to keep than a Zed , epecially in London , with upcoming increases in all sorts of car-related charges :headvswal

I'm an Engineer for BMW (live/work in Munich during the week), and the Mini (especially the Cooper and the CooperS) are fantastic... though obviously i'm biased :)

 

Great little car, well built and reliable - brilliant quick car around the city and on the twisties... a little bit lacking on the motorway but much better than the competition. Have a look at the clubman, I don't 'get' the little door thing, but the leg room in the back is good and the boot is pretty decent too - I think they look better in dark colours. My company car in Munich is a brown (yes brown) Cooper Clubman and I can't really fault it - except for the motorway thing which is exasperated on the Autobahn! Fuel economy is good (but not amazing) - i've not used one on the public road, but the CooperD isn't slow but is awesome for fuel economy.

I bought one for the wife, only faults I could pick were, very small boot, fairly bumpy ride and they seem to tram line / follow the camber of the road quite fiercly. They do hold their value well and pick one with as many extras as possible as that makes resale a lot easier.

If at all possible get a JCW one. Even quicker than the Cooper S. My brother's wife had one and they loved it.

when I was at Donington at earlier in the year there was a mini cooper S who certainly managed to keep up with me through the corners. They are not even that slow on the straights!

 

They seem to be pretty good cars. My only complaint is that they have a mini badge on them as they go against everything the original mini stood for.

AFAIK calling them a mini was just an sales ploy!

My sister has a Cooper S. Nice little car. I Love the interior. Quite a Firm ride and incredibly small rear leg room and boot.

I did the factory tour back in MArch - really interesting following the cars round the production line until they are driven off at the end.

 

I did notice that half of them did not start and had to be pushed off the conveyor - must be the new Peugeot engine they now use:rofl:

But if the objective is to save cost of fuel etc... a JCW / CooperS is going to give you a shock. I think my NA Zed is probably more efficient if driven gently!

They are brilliant !! I have had two minis and loved them both, you can park in a space the size of a plastic cup, go up the sides of narrow lanes that big cars can't, you can squish 3 of your mates in as well, so long as they are the same size as a 7 year old and they don't breath to deeply. tis crap for shopping tho, unless you are buying shoes !! ;) I would tell you to go for it.

my wife has one and we both love it, nippy, handles well etc but it does have a hard ride and the fuel economy is crap LOL

 

my wife is thinking of selling hers as its costing her a fortune in fuel as she has a heavy foot

 

apart from the exhaust its pretty much a JCW model but to be honest i wouldnt bother with the premium of the JCW model as its 3 mph faster top end and 0.4 sec quicker to 60 and for £4k its hardly worth it ;)

Thanks , Mike . I would have expected a bigger gap in performance figures so , price-wise , it`s good to know there isn`t in a way . We`re all used to thirsty motors , so that ain`t really the main issue , for me anyway . Although any improvement would be a Brucie bonus :rolleyes:

Its a girls car. My Mrs had one for a year but it was far to heavy on the juice so we sold it last month. Shes now got a 2 year newer Megane 1.5 DCi Sport for 2 grand less thaan what we sold the mini for.

yeh were looking at getting her a new car possibly a C2 or similar, not quite the same as the mini but she drives 3 miles to work and back and to the shops and thats it, if she goes further than 5 miles she gets a nose bleed :rofl:
