I've noticed over the past week there are alot of people thinking of selling up their Zed due to the increase of money required for ownership. I'm just wondering whos going to keep the car or sell and run:confused: Yes, im struggling with things but i know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. May be a dim one but it's there!!!!:D

I was going to sell mine, but due to the fuel prices its really going to hit the values and i would loose too much money. So i might just leave it sat on the drive doing not a lot most of the time instead.

The only way I am gunna sell my zed is if I come out of work, I cycle when I can and hardly putting any miles on it, cant imagine turning up to a show with a fiesta lol

lets face it all motors cost a packet...if your zed is a daily driver with city driving mpg its gonna be hard...not sure how many owners are limited milage owners i guess they wont sell as its a 2nd car anyway for the weekends etc....i did notice loads of diesel owners are selling up and switching to small petrol turbo's 1.3's 1.8's etc as the mpg is better than ever and cheaper at the pump...but its all relative i came in 2k under my budget on a land rover i bought....ok its diesel but 2k buys a years worth of diesel....or to put it another way it knocks 25% off the pump price for the next 4 years when i fill up...which makes it cheaper than petrol

If the 300zx is a daily driver then Im sure its hitting pockets hard. As a 2nd car it does'nt make any difference though.

I am looking to change my daily driver to something more economical though....need to work out whats cheaper to run though....a Petrol or a Diesel at the moment

LPG, Gotta be the way forward

Give it a couple of years will be just as expensive as petrol, only with the added cost of upkeep and conversion/installation costs.

It's not the fuel prices quite so much that bothers me although that is becoming a huge consideration. I am also very worried about the cost of road tax. I recently sold my 300zxtt but I have retained my 260Z. My intention was to sell all the old stuff and buy a 350Z however I see from the last budget that the crafty buggers have increased the road tax on these cars to £400 in 2009. 2008 tax rose slightly as it always does but the Big rise was hardly mentioned and only appears in 'the small print' I personally cannot justify paying that sort of price when I can run a small car at 60mpg and £35 pa tax.

Whilst I am very anti this government I do not forsee any immediate change in fuel prices or road tax should any other party oust them from power. So-called 'Green Issues' are a platform for any government to impose ridiculous taxes on us, the electorate, at random. without any real consideration for our personal circumstances, our hopes, hobbies or ambitions.

I think the days of old cars are numbered. We will be forced into scrap yards by politically motivated taxes, rules and regulations all under the umbrella of 'Green Issues'

Very True Derek!-The government has won and I'm off!:(

The whole cost of living in this country doesn't justify going to work!

I think we are subsidising too many people!!

The problem is the way we pay for all the taxes on cars in this country.

Massive tax on fuel.

Road tax keeps threatening to go up to £2K for large engines. Fair enough on new cars but not on cars people have owned for years and only use at a weekend.

Insurance has to be paid on 2nd and 3rd cars even if they are rarely used.

In the rest of the world you insure the driver and use whatever car you like - I bet they don't have half the uninsured driver problems.

Imagine if in a year you are paying £1.50 per litre - £90 a tank 4 times a month?

I'd get 150 miles on that!

£360 fuel per month minimum just for weekends and evening use?

£400+ on insurance.

£2K on tax.

That's £560 per month?!!! + maintenance

Our cars are going to become totally worthless very soon as nobody will buy them.

I think it's a real shame that sports cars are going to become a thing of the past and even as a weekend car they will be something only the rich can afford to run.

All these green taxes and plans are coming in far too early when there really is no alternative to the petrol/diesel engine.

Who could use the train or bus unless you live somewhere like London? Oh the politicians can!

We don't all commute to an office 5 miles down a main road with bus service and sit on our arses all day before coming home and why should we add another 2 hours to our day waiting for a bus or train that might not turn up?

Some of us are in our cars half the day.

All this won't matter to the ultra rich who pay just the same tax as everyone else in this country.

It's about time all these stealth taxes were cut back and the well off started paying a higher rate.

Someone on £20K a year has to pay the same massively taxed monthly bills as a guy on £100K+.

So what if a few leave the country?

Everyone else is thinking of doing the same anyway!

there is NOOOOO chance that i am selling this car i love it too much, i'd rather sit and look at it on the drive than let the government get the better of me :xxx:

Hear hear ChrisC...

I'm seriously thinking of sodding off to Australia with my missus in the next few years. Even if the taxes don't work out much better, at least the fuel and property prices are half decent. They're complaining that their fuel has gone up to $1.40AUD at the mo... now divide that by 2.5 and see if they should be whinging...

How much does it cost to ship a Zed...? ;)

I wouldnt say i would keep the zed no matter what, but things will have to get alot worse before i do sell it.

The new road tax increases dont effect us, its only for cars made after 2002. Im not saying our tax wont go up, but we certainly wont be paying 500 a year on road tax anytime soon for the zed. If anything i think the yearly running costs of an older performance car will be a dam sight cheaper than buying a newer performance car, hey, it might even bump the value up a bit (wishfull thinking)

Unlike my previous zed ownership, my current zed isnt a daily drive, so if i cant afford to put petrol in it, it can sit on the drive, if i cant afford to tax it, ill sorn it. The only thing that would make me consider selling would be if insurance rocketed.

Saying that, im fooking of to canada in a few years, and ill take the car with me!

mine is up for sale but nothing to do with petrol prices.

got 4 cars between 2 of us so some have to go... bye bye nissans

Z and Almera :(

i only do 5000 miles a year and its my daily driver, its my running prob that is killing me, im only getting 40 miles to £20 quids worth of petrol, get that soorted then im fine

I'm so bored and sick of the while fuel price issue, i run the zedtt everyday, i've done the maths+ if i have a 'cheap' car as well as the zed i will save a whopping £13 a week.

I know the time will come, when i can't afford to run it daily but until then i'm going to enjoy it+ smile smugly at the terminally bored in their boring cars.I make no apology for this.I'm ranting now, but heck, seeing as i've started..

I work 16 miles from home, i did see a bus once, but it was lost!, theres no alternative form me apart from walk to a new job, then the local firms pay is dire.(mine isn't great)

Think hard if you are selling, i can see a time when we all whistfully look back at the 'zed days' and Wish for something better than your new '75cc restricted to 15mph made from cowdung multiple personal transport machine '

Meanwhile, we watch so-called 'developing' countries burning coal + oil like theres no tomorrow. Why do we have to 'set the example'?

Seriously looking at a life in australia, where the governments 'green message' is to heavily subsidize lpg conversions. Not the only reason of course, but a big factor in it.

Have you thought about a new fuel pressure regulator? if duff, they chuck fuel down the drain.

I sometimes get 100 miles on £25

Running stock turbos, full 3" decats, + a big green mushroom unidentified filter.

LPG, Gotta be the way forward

I have been running lpg cars for years now, even thats ruined, couple years ago it was 40p p/ltr now 59p /litre and as cars use more lpg than petrol it wont need to go up to much more before equivilant to petrol !

I agree with Big Simon here! Iv had a look at the maths as well and being a Uni student with a TT as my daily driver man its getting hard! But i wouldnt sell me Zed. No way! So what to do?? Buy a cheap daily runner!

Say i spend 600 on it 400 insurance = 1000 squid thats like 6months Fuel anyways plus im filling up this old banger too! Not worth it! just stick it out! if you can afford to get another car then i reckon you can keep running a Zed! Thats my plan! plus trying to save up for a house! AHHH!!!! Government can shaft themselves on this one mwhahaha....... Rant Over!
