A million posts I know - read a lot of them, but.....................

Simple Q.

Want to fit a boost controller for my 300 TT. Want Economy (larf) Normal - and Ballistic.

Some people say get a re-map first. Not sure if that is necessary in all cases?

Say if I got a Profec B II. Would that need a chip before hand?

Any offers?

cheers Chris

It isn't 100% essential, but you would have to keep the boost below 12psi and on good fuel and be careful on warm days etc, without a re-map. Rubbing the lucky rabbit foot may also help ...

Its more a case of why would you not get it chipped - For the sake of £75-£125 you'll be able to run more boost, it will be safer more economical and more powerfull as well as things like speed limiter and rev limiter removed.

OK starting to make more sense now.........................

And if my wife asks why - what's the best excuse?

because the car was designed for the old style japanese fuel and that with the new bio fuel engineering you need to change it otherwise your tax will cost 8 thousand pounds per annum and the car will breakdown twice a week... if that doesnt work, plan b gets messy!

How do you explain the advantages of a re-map to a woman with 2 black eyes? Don't bother, you've already told her twice.....................

Hi mate,

I take it you already have upgraded exhaust and induction kit.

Becuase you need to improve the breathing before you up the boost in most cases.

For those who missed my update on another thread - I had the JD re-map and the Profec B fitted - I am just amazed by the performance. Still waiting to see overall optimim running as regards mpg and top end but if present performance is an indication it will be ballistic. Maybe it's my wishful thinking but the fuel gauge is not going down as quick as it used to despite the odd - loud pedal. Going to Germany Nurburg next month that will tell.

I have to lift off most times as the car just wants to go quicker without getting breathless.

I have an APexi induction kit, std injectors. New platinum plugs, new O2 sensors and huge brakes. What an awesome package.

Did have a brief stress period today - first MOT since owned. Got thru the stages of, 'Not sure if I can pass those corner turning lights, as they may infringe the lighting regs' and ' those number plates are a bit dodgy you know' and the rear fog light in the reverse lamp holder........................

Then everything went RED on the Sun emissions tester! On idle the CO was 2400 instead of .300. Oh dear - it was about to fail after it passed evrything else.

Then - brainwave - call JD. As I'm speaking to JD I lift the bonnet, pull off the 4mm vacuum pipe and the CO drops to under .300. The poor old tester scratches his head and says, 'well, I might just as well have pulled the probe out of the exhausts if you're gonna do that!'

Result - one new MOT.

now to find out why the idle emissions were so high?

Back to the plot - what a performer this car is - gotta be the quickest Autobox I've ever driven.

just out of interest, have you fitted an aftermarket oil cooler yet???? cause if you havent, i would seriously suggest you do, otherwise your autobox will become the slowest pile of sheared metal ever.

Is there no oil cooler on the Jap spec Zed TT?

Mmmmm could be an excuse for a manual? Not really wanting to try that though - specailly not at NBurg.

the gearbox oil cooler is integral to the radiator and its not very good to say the least, the engine oil cooler is behing the front bumper, if you stick your head under you'll see it, problem is that its not very big compared to the uk spec cars, what most people do as have I, is to get a bigger oil cooler and use it for the engine oil, then re-route the gear box oil to the old oil cooler. That way cooling for both engine and gear box is vastly improved.

Costs? Availability? Suppliers? Just when I thought - Ah, I've gone as far as I need....................

Also, what about thermo control for the oil coolers?

z-centre, dan@DTA. usually cost about £130 for the kit, hoses, fitting etc..... readily available, not sure but theres usually some second hand ones floating around on here. Fairly easy job to do your self, i took the front bumper off when i did mine, and thats abit of a pain in the backside.

my bumpers are coming off in next 2 weeks to be replaced by newly painted ones so there might be an opportunity.

Did you ever find out why your emissions were so high?

No actually I didn't. JD suggested I 'pinch' or remove a small balance tube on the top of the engine during MOT - which I did to the bewilderment of the tester. It obviously folled the machine and passed. I shall check it out next time I'm up with JD. Don't trust anyone locally - they have no clue.

Incidentally a new issue. Went away for 3 weeks. Came back and Zed battery was flat.

When started with booster battery the Profec made a frantic bleeping and showed a reading of 506. No matter what I did it stayed like that for ages.

Now seems to have settled but I'm suspicious of it;'s current performance tbh.

Anyone else had silly readings or errors from the Profec B series 11??

hi. could you tell me which 4mm vacuum hose you pulled off to puzzle the mot man ?
