went out today in my convertable (NA import), went to town and back and all was good, parked up for 20 minutes and went out again and found my brakes dont work properly anymore.

i'm farely sure they are stock, but theyve always been fairly good, much better than my uk tt even after it had bigger discs. i usume this is because it is a newer car (95)

the brakes still do something, they still slow the car somewhat but nowhere near a safe amount. it feels like i've lost the power assistance. similar to switching the engine off whilst moving and trying to stop

any ideas why it might do this? where do i look first ? a fuse? a pipe?

Could be something like a leaking pipe or faulty servo unit, is the car idling ok ?

pop the bonnet and see if you can hear any leak.

Like he said could be brake servo related if it feels the same even with engine on.

is the peddle very stiff or does it sink straight to the floor? If you pump the peddle does the braking power improve?

Did you look for any fluid loss under the car?

idling fine, the peddle feels normal, everything feels normal, it just doesnt stop the car like it should/used to. so i was thinking that the fluid isnt leaking or the presure would feel wrong. pumping doesnt help. no didn't look any further, put it in my garage and got the spare zed out

Sorry thought you meant that you had a hard pedal as if the servo wasnt working

If the pedal feels the same but you dont have the stopping power, it could be that you have seized front caliper pistons.... seems to be a common complaint with Z's

im sure i typed a post saying siezed caliper?! Weird must be loosing it

My thoughts too, what are the pads like? Possible that they have worn to the rear backing and youve got metal on metal... but you should really have heard that.

Also does that one have ABS? could be a solenoid sized in the abs unit stopping fluid flow to either the front or rear brakes? (Ive devised that from my understanding of how it works but im probably wrong!)

cheers guys for the various ideas, will have a play when i get back from z008

i don't think it's pads as it was a sudden change from good braking to poor braking
