Its happend!!!! Got rear ended yesterday FFS !!!

What can i say. There i was in the sun after a day out in london with my wife and family then BANG!!! I got shunted from behind at a pedestrian crossing. Thing was it was my wife sister and husband who did it!!

The damage is quite bad. Dented my rear bumper which isnt the problem but it also damaged and bent the panel between the bumper and lights pushing it up and causing the rear hatch to lift. I cant get it open and now i have approx 8 mm gap on either side.

Ive only had it on the road 5 months from the new engine i had put in FFS.

I have never had this happen before. I was wondering if and how the insurance would work on a case like this. There is no dispute who was in the wrong and he admits it. Im fully comp but can the insurance company still write my car off even though his company will be paying??

Reason i ask this is because that center panel at the back looks as if its one with the two rear wings.:cry::cry:

if you have a crash wether it was your fault or not, you must inform your insurance company, it will be in your policy

I found this, it may help to give u an idea on which category the insurance may place your car (if they write it off). Think yours will lie in the Cat C/D area??? More than likely Cat D! Good news is though...if they do write it off, you will be able to buy it back! (I remember speaking to my insurance company when my last car got wrote off to buy back is generally 20% of the cars value).

Hope this all helps!

Sean.

When an insurance company decides not to repair a vehicle they will issue it with a salvage classification category.

Salvage categories were introduced in an effort to curb vehicle crime in the UK. They were developed by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) with the assistance of vehicle recyclers, the DVLA and the UK Police Force.

The categories are as follows:

# A - Not for resale. Fire damaged (burnt-out), flood damaged (contaminated or salt water), severely damaged with no serviceable parts, or heavily stripped (shell).

Notification of Destruction required. (To be crushed).

(Recorded at DVLA & HPI).

# B - Not for resale. Damaged beyond economical repair and/or severe structural damage.

Notification of Destruction required. (Parts can be removed and sold).

(Recorded at DVLA & HPI).

# C - Repairable salvage. Generally applies to older vehicles. Can be sold for repair but must now have VIC inspection.

(Recorded at DVLA & HPI).

# D - Repairable salvage. Minimal damage sometimes stolen and found after claim has been paid, or cost of repair combined with difficulty obtaining new parts to enable a swift repair.

(Recorded with HPI).

# X - Repairable salvage. Not recorded on any registers such as HPI. Limited or very light damage, or vehicle is new or less than 12 months old.

Usually requires minimal repair work.

(NOT Recorded with HPI).

Firstly if it was written off (which i doubt, considering the Dutch Insurance Company's policy) it would almost certainly be a Cat C because of its age, which means you will fix it, mot it and then VIC test it and when you get your logbook back it will say that the vehicle was damaged/repaired and has had a vic test. On a very rare occasion a Cat C will not require a VIC test, however that is a Very rare occasion. Also you will have to declare that it is Cat C when you come to sell it which will obviously bring the value of the car down usually about 25%.

TBH i was just telling you that so you know, i seriously doubt this will happen to you as with you saying about the insurance company policy, i would think they will just send you the money and you get it repaired. Infact if you wanted to make something out of it, you could get a quote from a well known repairer and then get a repaired cheaper somewhere else.

I've bought alot of salvage cars and know what i need to know, however i have never bought a car back from an insurance company, however i would imagine everyones experience is different, so don't necessarily think you will get the same treatment as others in the past.

HTH :)

it will still be classed as a write off regarding what the insurance company says, mine was settled in court by the MIB, my insurance company wasnt involved, i got the damages from the MIB and they claim it back from the guy that had no insurance and decided to suck himself off whist re versing out of a junction that i had flashed him into

apperently he didnt see me

Mine was worse than that, was jigged and cost £1100...with full respray! Paid for the paint myself tho

i assume that what he was doing and told him so when i dragged him out of his shitty litttle astra, he said "sorry mate didnt see ya", i said "how, were you sucking yourself of ya little prick",

Jonce, someone crashed into the back of mine last year and did this, it was repaired for £1750 all in.

The guy that did it is in Rugby so not of much use to you. But I can tell you he is self employed so not VAT registered, if you try looking for some more of the self employed chaps you might get a good deal.

Edit: forgot to say it was not written off or recorded anywhere
