I have just fitted brembo brake discs all round and feel that the brakes could still be better.I have a 94 tt lwb auto which has got the ali calipers on so which is best the ali or cast. Can somebody also tell me is this right should i have ali calipers on the car or cast. One more thing it has got standard pads front and rear which is not helping.

Mr F does them, easy job to do and makes the brakes so much better, can't remember how much they are. i done mine few years back and was well worth it

Brake discs wont make much of a difference in braking performance. Pads can make a noticable difference, but the next step up is either a Big Brake disc conversion (larger disc, and a bracket to space the caliper out) or a proper big brake conversion including larger stiffer calipers.

Im not sure the Ali or Cast offer improved braking between them in terms of braking performance. Ali is lighter but can apparantly build up too much heat and warp a disc quicker, whereas Cast is heavier but apparantly can offer better cooling to prevent brake disc warping.

portfeilds and hawks pads seem to be the fav or if you have the money forodo jobbys.

i'm currently putting evo 8 calipers and 350z discs on mine disc are going from 280mm DIA to 324mm. should be fitting them this weekend if the brake lines come in

oooh so soon.. make sure you take pics of the final result and feedback on the performance etc... oh and make sure you grease up the threads so they come off easy when you hand em over to me ;)

Hi mate, now that you've got more of an idea on what disc size your using, can i suggest the Skyline GTR disc over the 350Z one's, yes both are the same size BUT, because the 350z comes from a newer model car, the discs no matter the aftermarket brand, can be much more expensive than the GTR ones and usually greater choice too, if it was me, thats what i'd go with ;)

smithy

the height of the hub is different between the 350 and the liner discs, plus there the same price for both from EBC £205 (pair) for the brembo type grooved and dimples 324mm DIA

Have you sussed out an adaptor ?

Hi Dean

The only other thing that no-one has mentioned is that the pads have a bedding in period,

I had new discs and pads fitted recently to my Iveco van and it took a few miles of braking before they felt good, just a thought.

Cheers

Graham

yes they are getting made this week for about £50 the pair, and the engineering compay are improving them so they are stronger from my design

Sorry mate, when ever i refer to aftermarket i never have ell cheapo EBC's in that way of thinking, so never gave them a thought, soz

The offset between the 350 and Skyliner are indeed different, but 100% the same in ALL other dimensions, just a general more availablity for the liner should you want better discs in the future.

Dean, Danny at DTA was selling the DS2500 pads for a mega well cheap price compared to normal retail, chaepest i've seen anywhere, drop him a line and see if he can still do the same deal ;)

Has anybody used ebc redstuff or greenstuff pads if so are thay any good.It just seems thay are very easy to get hold of and the price is not to bad.

I've tried Redstuff ones before. They were good but you have to run them in properly and then cook (de-gas) them 2 to 3 times before they work well

Red stuff are the councils worst nightmare - landfill material! Get the Ferodos!

Ive got the red stuff in at the mo, so why they so crap, i got them with the discs. but im not too clever when it comes to pads. am i correct in saying the red stuff would last longer and gives off less dust? So are ferodo the way to go? what other makes of pads are worth using?

I'm sure in a few years EBC products will be available at all pound shops

They really are bargain basement stuff tbh. Ferodos are great from cold and even better once hot with very little dusting :)
