I partly asked this in an earlier post but never really got an answer.

My subframe bushes were leaking badly so as a quick fix I got a set of the locking collars from Z1 to disguise it and hopefully lock the subframe down.

I'm still getting a strange side to side wriggle when powering out of long corners and can't decide if it's a subframe problem or the rear suspension that's shot.

I've tried pulling on the rear wheels and their doesn't seem to be any play.

The HICAS has been completely removed.

Does anybody know if these locking collars will completely clamp the subframe in position even with knackered bushes?

I don't know if they are just designed to reduce play along with good bushes or totally lock it out in which case the bush condition is irrelevant.

Don't want to go to all the effort of removing the subframe if the problem is with the suspension arms and bushes.

Cheers,

Chris.

Hi chris

I have these collars also.

I think even with really bad bushings they still stiffen up, you can retighten them again to compress the bush some more.

I think the bush would have to be really really worn for them not to make a difference.

You might wanna check your hicas inners and outers, yes i know you have a hicas lock bar but these joints are still in use and if worn will give you a very funny floaty feeling at the rear.

What about the rear tension arm bushings? are they in good condition?

Bottom ball joints?

shocks

One more thing, If your wheels are toed out at the rear this would give a very twitchy feeling and make the car change direction very easily. Tracking? by the way When these cars are lowered the toe out is increased.

HICAS arms and ball joints were replaced at same time as the bar was fitted and it's an adjustable toe HICAS system so I've had that set up.

It's on Blitz lowering springs and Koni adjustables about 4 years old and hardly driven.

It could well be the rear tension arm bushes or ball joints I suppose but I can't seem to find any play when I've done a quick check.

The back end seems to sway to one side then the other as the power is put down almost like the feeling of torque steer in a powerful front wheel drive car.

Doesn't give any confidence at all when cornering so I don't dare use half of the cars grip.

Sounds like tension rods to me Chris. Are you coming over next weekend (03/05/08) for the Chester Pub Crawl with Dave, Wozzer and Co. If you are buddy we can get the car on the 4 poster at my mate Johns and have a proper wiggle at it and sus it properly.

Still hoping to but the Z is in bits again and not taxed and insured so unlikely I'll be able to bring it over :(

Might just get one of the rear suspension kits from Danny as I've literally replaced everything else on this fookin heap!

those kits are a deal, but youl still need a bush for the other side of the tension rod in the hub :(might as well get the hub bush for the camber arm too while your at it :)

i got all four from driftworks at bout £4 each i think it was.

The bushes come with the Powertix full race kits as per the GB.

they are front ones, we are talking bout rear ones :D but i think they are called traction rods the rear ones not tension so my mistake.

It could well be these as the name kind of gives it away.

It does feel almost as though the wheels are turning side to side and I'm presuming that these rods are there to keep the wheels in line as the front tension rods do?

I originaly replaced the HICAS as I'd wrongly assumed it was allowing the wheels to turn under power - the balljoints were badly worn but it felt just the same after I replaced them.

yep, youl have to take a look under there, if everything else is new and solid then the old worn out parts will be amplified and have unwanted flex resulting in unwanted wheel movement. thats why when you uprate one thing you may aswell do they rest.

I thought you liked a wobbly arse Chris
