Right i've just bored meself reading 10 pages on 300zxclub about them. After all those pages no one would still post up numbers on the coolers and i don't mean flow testing numbers, i mean numbers whilst fitted to the car they are meant to fit. I have seen all the bumf on the aussie forum too, watched the GB as it went on and can see them being sold second hand now too!.

What exactly do we want to see when new coolers are fitted ? i know what i think it should be, Legrath, Jimmy ?? then find me a post that someone has done saying what the result was, and i'll give yer a tenner!!

With all due respect as regards the 700bhp zed using Godpseed coolers, this would be the 1st time this forum has believed a US power run figure and it's actually his other modifications that give him this or any other power, answer the question above and then i wonder what this guys figure was whilst doing his runs.

Oh and all that power from a stock ECU with a JWT Dual pop chip, wowwwww

This pic really shows how great they are for the zeds bumpers http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/show_image.pl?bg=FF0000&image=http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/2074000-2074999/2074139_94_full.jpg

All those on the US and Aussie forum bought them cos they were BIG and cheap, their own words! as one guy said, when buying new tryes would you pay 50 bucks for bigger similar looking tyres or 500 bucks for correct sized and performing tyres that you know WILL do the job.

Man, 75 quid a side for the coolers, @50p an hour for fabrication, hmm yep almost there

Smithy i just spent ages reading it too, i think i got a bit excited again with the cost and all the good comments, I did look at the intercooler again and i know what ya mean by bad end tank design, it is a bit right angled but only on the intake side not the output side which i suppose is more important??? Im still up for being a test dummy, i thought the size would make up for the poor design or am i wrong? Surely you can improve ventilation throught the fog ducts?

Well until ive tested them we will never know. We need more spontanious peeps on this forum to try diferent things and live on the edge a bit. You only live once :D

Well your deffo the guy for that, lol

For cheap money for coolers if it was me, Z1's or Ashspecs :smash:

smithy

but these are even cheaper and havent been tested more reason for me to buy. Really i should do a dyno before and after though.

here are some results just posted on the us forum:

268CFM @ 20" with 1.2PSI Pressure Drop each ( TOTAL = 536CFM w/ 1.2PSI Pressure Drop)

Its all japanese to me apart from the pressure drop bit.

What are numbers for the named ic's so we can compare?

That's flow test results mate, which yep are good. However they should be too cos it is also in relation to size of the unit. What your looking for is when some one's taken their Zed to the rollers and the mapper has indictated how much the intake charge temps have reduced. To accurately compare these coolers it would need the very same car checked before fitting and after fitting them. High intake charge temps= BOOM! :D

Cheers

700hp or not (I did'nt mention numbers or wether I believed them) its clearly a high powered example with the rest of his spec and hence the intercoolers must be doing their job.

Im not aware of any test performed, but that does'nt bother me. Its just an intercooler, its big, it fits, has good flow, low pressure drop and its built well....quite frankly thats all thats needed to do the job.

Im also not aware of any Intake temp comparison tests between any intercoolers for the 300zx.

Yes you get different core types, fin designs..blah..blah ..blah....but were talking about replacing tiny undersized 15yr old intercoolers with bent fins and plastic end tanks here.

That pic you posted suggests they are even better than I thought for a bumper with fog ducts.

Like I said as long as you provide enough air to the charge face then its a worthy upgrade.

I'd not suggest they are better than any of the competition, but they are very good value.

Z1 were doing a group buy a while back, I like their intercoolers and the group buy price was very good.

I wont buy from Ashz though, the guys customer service skills are a joke...perhaps when he eventually sticks to Design & Manufacturer and retails through a third party seller things will change.

Im with you all the way giraffe, Ive even compared the look of them to the stillen side mounts and yes the stillens end tanks are slightly better shaped but not majorly, so for the MONEY they are class :D

Dave, you must have been to enough rolling roads by now to know that a car will still perform it's power run for all of 1 minute on the rollers to get a power output, but it does not mean the coolers are highyly efficient.

Some years ago many of us went to Thor for a dyno day, i unfortunately smashed No.6 piston, but hey. Anyways nearly all the zeds were on stock coolers and running high IC temps, they all managed prety good figures for their mods and the odd zed with aftermarket coolers ran cooler temps but more importantly, for longer and that's my point. That is what represents actually driving, the time the car is running and having air blasted onto the coolers themselves and the car is still performing as it should.

At 75 quid a side and that includes the profit the seller is making, built well INTERNALLY is what matters, not outside where you can see.

I agree though, literally anything is better than knackered old units, however in good working order they do perform to a certain extent, bare in mind they were each designed to flow for a 1.5cc engine and with small mods, they still work.

Getting enough air to the face is probably the biggest problem, yep that pic for you was good, for me it was bad cos it shows just how much core is hidden and you have no real choice but to make the fog lights into ducts just in a hope of getting enough air through, cos any duct designed would need to be like a bleedin ski slope!

As for Ash, well unfortunately like many others from the US, i would to agree sadly.

Alls am trying to point out to anyone, seriously consider what this item is meant to do, just how little your paying for it @75 quid a corner ( a half decent core costs that).

Am happy with my greddy's so all this makes no difference to me, but i would hate to see someone blinded by what appears to be to them as a fantastic bargain :)

Oh and for whoever does buy them, a dyno run with temp charts for before with stockies and an after with these coolers really would be a good idea.

Outta all those sold so far, no one seems to have posted that info up, yet!

smithy

good point about the cost....£75 each as final retail price does raise concerns

Intercoolers are not on my list yet....but having no bumper on at the moment and seeing the old tired looking IC's does make these very tempting.

Understandable mate, save up and get the z1's, still cheap too..

Around 8 years ago i spent a day with a company down south wales who do nothing but manufacture coolers and rads for the rally brigade worldwide and have been for 20 years, i was amazed at how much work goes into them tbh.

Point of me being there was to have coolers and rads done for the Zed, once made costs would not have made them that viable to make a small profit, which i could understand having seen the guys doing their stuff and the vast amount of different types of cores.
