Has anyone ever converted S1 cruise control to series 2 SRS type?

As you know, series 1/series 2 non-SRS has the speed/set controls on the steering wheel with the indicator paddle on the right hand side. (Shown is a USDM car which has the indicator on a different side to JDM models), but all series 2+ came with indicator stalks on this side.

I have an aftermarket steering wheel (Momo Race) on my series 1 and it'll either remain or be replaced with a Momo Daytona, so will not be fitting the original steering wheel and therefore my CC still remains redundant. There's no real suitable place to mount the buttons from the steering wheel anywhere in the dash without it looking messy.

So, I am looking at retro-fitting the indicator/CC paddle and column shroud from a series 2+ with SRS. Now the indicator paddle is on the opposite side on SRS equipped cars.

What I am wanting to know, has anyone ever done this? Is it pretty much a straight swap? Would I need to modify the column to get the indicator cancels to work? Or is that incorporated within the control ring that sits behind the wheel boss?

If it´s not just a straight swap how about using a steering wheel boss with the cruise control buttons on it....i mean it´s not the perfect solution as you have to reach through the steering wheel to activate them ( plus you have to change it over for MOT over here ) but seriously...how often do you actually use cruise control on a car like the ZX ?

That's not really the information I'm after afraid. I ALREADY have CC, I just want to get it to work with an aftermarket steering wheel, hence wanting to fit the CC stalks and wiring from a series 2. There is no place to mount the buttons without it becoming unsightly and awkward to use.

I live 5 miles from a major motorway and use the car for long summer jaunts which mean I do some motorway mileage and I like cruise control. I also like EVERYTHING that came with the car to work.

Cheers Andy. :)

Andy, in your time of working on Z32s, do you think it's simply a case of fitting the shroud and control block that the paddles mount to?

Not sure Si. I have a Z at the unit with the shroud off so will have a look to see if the indicator cancel is on both sides. If not you'll have to get the column as well but thats not too difficult to fit :)

Thanks. :)

Is there not a block behind the wheel boss that they mount to grip the column?

Want me to take a pic for you?

Ok no worries :)

i have a whole column in my garage with all the bits on i can take pics of specific bits if req

Will be down tomorrow bud will take a pic for you then :)

Didn't think you'd be into Cruzin Si!

Wouldn't have thought it was too tricky to do this.

I was always going to do what Mac did and take the control panel out of the stock wheel and mount it into the centre console near the mirror controls.

It's not on the wheel but still dead easy to operate and looks stock if done neatly.

In the end I decided to rip it all out when I took all the other non-essential stuff out the car to make it lighter and less complicated.

Si, im a bit confused..are you saying that the indicator switch is on the opposite side to normal on cars equipped with steering collumn mounted cruise control paddle ?

If so, then thats incorrect. They are on the same side. SRS on left. Indicator on right.

Can't be that tricky. 'Should' just be a case of removing the steering wheel, removing the boss and coloumn shroud, then removing the old indicator stack, replacing new indicator and CC stanch, fit the wiring, fit replacement shroud, boss and wheel.

You sure? I know this is for an LHD, but I'm sure RHD are the same config.

99% sure. Been in several with the CC lever and never noticed a difference. Pauls convertible has CC lever too, and I've driven it a few times and was fitting gauges to it at the weekend. Im sure I would of noticed if indicator had swapped sides.

Oh right ok. One of the breakers has all the gubbins I need...well he did last year! LOL Should be a straight fit then and pretty darn easy. Spoken to someone over on TwinTurbo.net that's done it and says it all works fine.
