1st of all let me remind you of the differences between the three..... :D

TEA

Tea is an infusion made by steeping processed leaves, buds, or twigs of the tea bush, Camellia sinensis, in hot water for several minutes.

Tea is one of the most widely-consumed beverages in the world

DINNER

Dinner is the main meal of the day, eaten at midday or in the evening.

SUPPER

Supper is the name for the evening meal in some dialects of English - ordinarily the last meal of the day.

So why do the people of this grand nation call their evening meal TEA ..... Dinner or Supper will do! :slap:

On this note a funny story :)

I worked with a chinese girl a few years ago who lived here cos she married an english man. She got a job at a golf course and naturally people would ring up to make dinner reservations. Only problem was that she was always taught that dinner is an evening meal, but actually the people booking meant lunch time..........................she was fired shortly after

No Paul they're giving you what they think you are - ARSEHOLE  :D

All I can say is you lot eat too much (although probably not a patch on Big Kim) ;)

Oi duffers, your a cheeky Knob jockey, from the threads ive read on this forum, you eat far more than me, you just burn calories off quicker through ya gob. :mac1:

we call the evening meal - dinner

TEA is a beverage not something you chew (unless you drop your biscuit into your tea!!)

Maybe it the the way I was Brought up or because All the Males in my family over the las 3 generations in the Army (except me), but I thought

Elevenses was eaten between 11.00 and noon.

Lunch was eaten from noon to 14.00 and can be the main meal of the day.

Tea was served anytime between 14.00 and 18.00 usually consisting of little sarnies, cakes and lots of cups off TEA. And then

Dinner was a large meal served at or after 20.00

This thread is funny...

Breakfast(which I dont eat)

Dinner

Tea

Or just "having some food or going for food" which I am this evening, lol

Dinner usually, sometimes tea, rarely supper.

Never called it supper

when I was a kid in Scotland used to go home at tea time for my tea which was about 6pm

I tend to call it dinner now which can range from 5pm to about 9pm dependent on when I get home from work

Always have breakfast

Need to change the poll as I call it both!!

ooh its 10 vs 10 in the poll. as a scotsman would say: i dinner know how tea tell what its supper-sed to be called

wtf did that come from? :slap:

You lot are mental.

If you think Dinner should be eaten at midday then fir enough but I would imagine Dinner is a hot meal consisting of meat and vegetables.

Down in the south we have that kind of meal in the evening and something like a light salad/ pasta or sandwich at midday, which we call lunch.

how I see it....

Breakfast

Lunch

Dinner

Supper and Tea don't even come into it, it's only old people that call them that, sorry if I offended any old farts or young people with old fashion traditions :)

Anyway turns out we are all kinda right.

Dinner

–noun

1. the main meal of the day, eaten in the evening or at midday.

2. a formal meal in honor of some person or occasion.

Supper

–noun

1. the evening meal, often the principal meal of the day.

2. any light evening meal, esp. one taken late in the evening: an after-the-theater supper.

–adjective 3. of or pertaining to supper: the supper dishes.

4. for, during, or including supper: a supper party.

Tea

–noun 1. the dried and prepared leaves of a shrub, Camellia sinensis, from which a somewhat bitter, aromatic beverage is prepared by infusion in hot water.

2. the shrub itself, extensively cultivated in China, Japan, India, etc., and having fragrant white flowers. Compare tea family.

3. the beverage so prepared, served hot or iced.

4. any kind of leaves, flowers, etc., so used, or any plant yielding them.

5. any of various infusions prepared from the leaves, flowers, etc., of other plants, and used as beverages or medicines.

6. beef bouillon.

7. British. any meal, whether a light snack or one consisting of several courses, eaten in the late afternoon or in the evening; any meal other than dinner, eaten after the middle of the afternoon.

8. an afternoon reception at which tea is served.

That pretty much says it all lol we're all right :D

Look, supper and tea are separate meals from lunch and dinner - not alternative names

(although I accept that a lot of people incorrectly call lunch "dinner" and dinner "tea").

I work nights 90% of the time therefore my main meal at around 19:00 hrs is my dinner. I start at 22:00 hrs and finish normally at 08:00hrs. Sometimes having to travel for 1-2 hours before and after each shift.

My breakfast would be at 13 - 14:00hrs my Tea would be around 17:00hrs my supper would be about 09:00hrs. So in mycase it dont work.

this thread is like the question " which come first the egg or the chicken"

well if the chicken didnt cum there be no egg:headvswal:slap::rofl:
