1st of all let me remind you of the differences between the three..... :D

TEA

Tea is an infusion made by steeping processed leaves, buds, or twigs of the tea bush, Camellia sinensis, in hot water for several minutes.

Tea is one of the most widely-consumed beverages in the world

DINNER

Dinner is the main meal of the day, eaten at midday or in the evening.

SUPPER

Supper is the name for the evening meal in some dialects of English - ordinarily the last meal of the day.

So why do the people of this grand nation call their evening meal TEA ..... Dinner or Supper will do! :slap:

Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford had the idea of asking her butler to bring tea, bread and butter to her chambers at 5 o'clock, as she found herself hungry before dinner, and soon started inviting her friends to join her in her sitting room for this new social event. Eventually, the beverage tea became generally affordable and the growing middle class imitated the rich and found that the meal tea was a very economical way of entertaining several friends without having to spend too much money, and afternoon tea quickly became the norm.

Going a little off topic why do some parts of the country call bread cakes, "tea cakes"

Breakfast..... The microwave reheated remains of last nights takeaway

Brunch.....Something starbucks customers say to try and sound middle class.

Dinner ....a meal eaten around "dinner time" ie 12 noon therefore an evening meal cannot be called dinner.

Supper.... Cornflakes or similar eaten just before bed, so unless you go to bed at 6pm then an evening meal cannot be called supper

Tea..... A drink old people like and often twitter on about preceeding it with the phrase "nice cup of".

Simple eh
