whats t he problem with the car

Eratic gearbox and some posts that I have read say that a possibility may be to use Conzult to check connections, I have gone over everything I can think of which leads me to think its electrical related.

Basically changes gear perfect in Hold mode, but anything other and its a damn nasty kick.

Correct me if I am wrong this is the info I have been reading here and elsewhere etc etc:dance:

tps was changed by previous owner to rectify it (says it was not setup?)

sorry what is "IIRC" ?

He might have changed it but it has to be adjusted to the right voltage, easily done with a conzult ;)

ok hopefully that will be why then :D cheers.

Andyp I could make an evening this week let me know when and where and if its ok for you bud:duffer:

Ok finally got ConZult on the motor (Thanks again Andy) and shows no errors but had a lil trouble registering the gearbox, so after a lil while it finally popped on and was a little irregular so led us to believe it was the Autobox ECU...

Today I tried the one sat in the TT in the garage but I still get the nasty kick backs, now I dont know if this is coz TT is incompatible with the N/A Autobox ? perhaps? I dont know.

One thing we did see that it brought up while driving was a few errors IIRC were a couple of solenoid and speed detection. I might be wrong am going from memory a few days ago. I know I shoulda wrote em down lol....

Any gear box gurus out there ? Am sure it is electrical... well hope more like lol

Maybe you can give a little more details on the car ?

>> TT is incompatible with the N/A Autobox ? perhaps? I dont know.

You have a N/A auto transmission in a Turbo car ??... or a N/A AT ecu on a TT auto transmission ?

You can not use a TT AT ecu on a NA gearbox and vice versa.

and it's not a very good idea to use a NA auto transmisson in a TT, unless you're desperate :)

have you checked the obvious things, like gearbox oil level ?

jerky gearshifts can indicate a problem with oil pressure (being too high) or wrong ATF oil.

having a good speed signal is also very important, as the AT ECU uses this for it's internal shift maps.

sorry its a N/A model 91 jap spec auto.

might be worth me replacing the gearbox oil and trying that although its at the right level.

I tried the autobox ecu on the N/A to see if there was any difference it was a 50/50 try wether it was compatible or not.

Looking at an A/T control diagram it springs to mind what the errors were and I am sure they were;

Shift solenoids A+B

Speed sensor

This all leads me to believe its the Auto Ecu :(

Anyone got a spare N/A Autobox Ecu I could try ???

Eric,

Just to be absolutely clear, the car with the problem is an NA auto, he also has a TT auto. The NA showed nothing at all on ConZult for the gearbox until I unplugged it and reconnected it. Then it seemed to work for a while, but was still throwing up errors during being driven. I think that autobox ECU is sick.

>> sorry its a N/A model 91 jap spec auto.

Ok, I see :)

Does it have the problem since recently ? or has it always done that ?

>> Shift solenoids A+B

>> Speed sensor

both are very important

Did you/Andy check if the speed signal worked on the Main engine ECU ?

>>This all leads me to believe its the Auto Ecu

could be the case. or it's a wiring issue (more common).

Has the transmission ever been removed ?

The speed signal was definitely there on the main ECU, probably need to double check whether it was intermittent though as spent a lot of time looking at the gearbox screen. Thanks.

Okay got the NA autobox ecu today and tried it bearing in mind I had the item in this post:

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=110479

so I fitted it and took for a spin, 1st thing I noticed was it would not change the 1st gear till around 4.5k - 5k rpm but felt alot more responsive... and would change normally after that.

So I parked up and took the Auto Line Controller off and used the ECU sent, this felt like it was in hold mode all the time and would not accelerate very well at all. So for now I have put the Auto Line Controller back on as it seems to respond alot better apart from the 1st shift....

Also now when I start the car the Power Light flashes 16 times, I pressume this is an error code.

Please advise my saviors lol....

ok 1 long flash then 16 short flashes after car starts, what is this?

gotta be something to do with above post? perhaps?

  • Author

Does this when driving also, think it could be the speed sensor when the TT clocks were put in as was mentioned by Topless also...
