i looked into these when mine was a auto, few things i found out was that it raises the line pressure making gear changes more agressive but this is at the expense of gearbox longevity, considering that these boxes are old and go easily now i avoided it

look at the shift at will kit as with this you can set line pressure as well but less agressively than the alc and have gear control

Or look for HKS ALC 2 apparently a lot kinder to the gearbox.

I had the HKS ALC 1 fitted and it did make a difference but I lost overdrive (mine was UK auto)

just as Retro said really. i had the ALC2 installed in my auto and although there was definately a noticable improvement in accelleration, a few months later down the line i was down to 2 gears and a manual conversion :headvswal . id recommend with rebuilt boxes only

Some actually say they reduce wear as the changes are faster.

Most of these boxes are so old that they are probably about to fail anyway.

Nobody fits an ALC and then drives it steady do they?

Had one on mine and loved it for a couple of years until the box died but I blame that on the thrashing I gave it LOL

It's like saying don't fit a huge turbo cos it'll make your tyres wear out LOL
