Am I right in thinking the stock plug for the antenna lead is a 2 pronged affair? Is there some kind of adaptor you can get for it to fit aftermarket headunits? My old headunit didn't have one and I found that someone hadn't plugged it in and had simply ran an earth from it to the body of the car.

Cheers

Si

It splits the 2 connections into 2 seperate connectors rather than just on the one, simple :)

Have you change your speakers Si, and if so which type did you go for. Although mine is a series 2 which is marginally better sounding than the S1, it is still crap and I would like to upgrade the speakers. My stereo is an Alpine so that should be OK.

I've got Alpine speakers all round now. I've removed all the old wiring and gutted the Bose speaker boxes (to get rid of the little amps).

What you're probably finding is that your existing stereo is overpowering the amps in the speakers and you're getting poor speaker performance. The original Bose headunit had a lower powered amp with secondary amps in all speaker enclosures. So when an aftermarket system is fitted, these tend to be 4x35w or more, they just push the speakers beyond the threshold and they make all sorts of strange noises.

Mine used to crackle. But I now have new speakers and cables as well as a new headunit. PLUS, I've sound deadened the doors and speaker enclosures...so...with a bit of luck, it should sound reasonable.

I have a sub to fit too once I've made a contoured/carpeted box.

thats not an antena connector , its an audio splitter

Ordered one of these now. Headunit is now wired in! All works perfectly apart from lack of radio, but the connector arrives on Monday.

It's odd having a stereo again, I rarely listened to the old system as the speakers/wiring were so shite. Sounds pretty reasonable for a 4 speaker system. But will have my sub in there before too long. Quality is good! Not as much bass definition as I'd have hoped, but it's not bad. But with the sub going in, it should sound really good.

Was worth doing the sound deadening, I get zero resonance through the doors. So it's doing its job!

Was quite strange tinkering around in the interior just now whilst watching Bladerunner! lol
