Make sure you put a large container at the end of the pipe - the fuel pump delivers quite a lot when its working LOL

Ill remember to put my ciggie out too LOL

OK took og the pipe in front of the fuel filter put it in a bottle and cranked the engine. No Fuel came out.

So whats the next step of testing?

dont think its the fuse tried that. Once i remove it (easier said than done due to condition of bolts) i will run some power to it to see if it power up.

dont just run a direct power source to it, make sure you have an in line fuse, otherwise if theres a short, it may start melting things. :)

and then ignite the fuel haha

This could be down to a couple of things. Firstly the fuel pump fuse which is at the back of the engine bay under a cover in the lefthand corner. Remove cover and the fuse is the last one on the right. Obviously swap or replace to try this out. Next test the pump directly by fixing up a direct feed to it. Forget all the sh@t about explosions, but make sure to get the pos and neg round the right way. Just touch the power to it. It will either go or not as simple as that. If it does go then it could be the fuel pump ECU which adjacent the rear seat on the passenger side. You will have to take the side panel off to get to it. Quite rare for these to pack up. Jeff at Zedworld can supply one 2ndhand. But firstly check the lead to the pump to see if it is getting power when turning the engine over. You will need a meter to check this. If no power then possible fuel pump ECU fault. There is also a relay somewhere in the line, which if my memory serves me right is down on the drivers side footwell adjacent the fuses. Once again a strip out job for the interior panels around the fues box.

Tried the fuses first off. Im placing my hopes on the fuel pump at the moment, gonna replace it anyway. looking at the state of the bolts on my fuel tank (the 8 little ones) id say mine is on its origional fuel pump. One of the bolts sheerd, but as i could not hear a release of pressure untill i removed 2 more i'm hoping it will be fine without it. I have 2 of the bolts that seem a pain to get to as the fuel tank seems a tad further back than its supposed to be.

Correct mate :)

When i stripped out an old alarm system it was wired through this relay and i had to bridge the terminals in order to get it to work. Not hard to get at.

Ok its not the fuel pump, i removed it put a direct feed to it and it pumped fine. So I have checked fuses, CAS, PTU, Fuel Pump.

Next i guess would be Fuel Pump Relay?

Also do these cars have a fuel cut off switch in case of crashing? Somebody mentioned that it may of activated when thieves tried to start with mixed up wiring.

Ok, just glanced through his & need to head home now... but has it got an immobilser?? If someone's tried to bypass it to steal it... could be a reason??

ok when the familly turn up at the roost ill post back on here and ill try to come up tonight if thats any good to you ?

Ok update on my car still being shagged.

Done the following.

1. Checked Fuel Pump Fuse (Fine)

2. Tried Cranking Over engine with fuel pipe disconnected (no fuel came out)

3. Took CAS out and turned by hand (Clicking from injectors but nothing from fuel pump)

4. Check power was getting to Fuel Pump via Miltimeter (Got just under 12 amps from one terminal and about 6 from another?)

5. Removed Fuel Pump and had direct feed sent to it (It worked)

6. Changed Fuel Pump Relay (No change)

So car still not starting and no fuel being delivered.

My last stop before setting fire to it is the fuel pump ecu I did have a look at it and found the connecter to be a bit singed

Does that point to the FPU?

  • Author

Thanks for that. I was about to go out and carry this out when i remembered there was a earth wire from the fuel pump in the rear of my car connected by somebody to the body of the car. After reading the bottom of the article it seems my FPU has been bypassed via this method. So as its probally been that way for some time I guess the FPU needs replacing?
