Ive replaced all the drivechain bushings and mounts with uprated ones apart from the engine mounts which i have changed only the passenger side mount with a oem one the drivers side is still the original and is prob knackard........

I had the cars rear in the air a while back while a friend had it in first gear while pressing and depressng the clutch.... It made a very distinctive knock noise which was coming from the drivechain but was hard to pin point it.

I looked under the car while my friend was on and off the clutch and tried to find where the hell it was coming from but everything was solid with no movement at all, diff was solid, gearbox fine and prop spinning nice and straight......

I then looked under the bonnet and the engine was moving slighty from side to side so im assuming the engine movement is contributing to the noise......

Any feedback on this would be great as its been on my mind for a while.

As part of my rebuild im having the other engine mount replaced but i wanna be sure that it will cure the movement and prehaps i should invest in uprated mounts or even solid ones????

I Get that annoying knocking noise from the rear on and off throttle and at low rpm.

theres a vid on youtube of the play in my diff but andyduff said it looks normal What do you experts out their recon? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmxRVjZRa3s

I wanna make sure when my engines back in the silly noise and movement has gone.... ive runout of things to look at....

i'm here but i aint got a clue mate

If the vibration is from the engine, then the new OEM mount will more than do the job!

Uprated/Solid mounts were initially designed for the BIG serious BHP Zeds, taking of with such force has been knowm to rip an OEM mount.

Unless you win the lottery, you'll never have that kinda power.

OEM mounts are used on all manner of different powered Zeds and will last years if fitted correctly, my own Z is 475lb of torque and has no vibration with OEM mounts.

P.S, If you fitted solid ones, you deffo wouldn't like it!

Yeah i heard of the solid being very noisy but that doesnt bother me i like it noisy haha.

How can you fit a mount wrong?

And im not getting any engine vibration but wobble under the bonnet... you can see the engine move from side to side like i wrote above. When the clutch is depressed etc so im assuming the one i hhavent changed is fooked.. the passenger one was ripped when i took it off and im suprised it was still in place.

When re fitting an engine for the 1st time you should always fit new mounts as a matter of course. The originals are on average 15 years old plus and she's a heavy ole engine.

So replace the other side regardless of condition, if it's the original just do it.

Point being, if your still suffering a bad Vibe after this engine is re done and you changed the other mount, fitting an uprated or solid mount later ain't gonna cure it, cos it means your problem lies elsewhere!

of course, i know to replace the other mount without question, but im wondering if that engine wobble would cause that horrible noise and feel when pulling off...

My bro' has uprated (but not solid or poly) engine mounts on his SR powered S13. They vibrate the whole car and is causing loads of rattles inside. I would just replace the other mount with a standard one. All engines should move side-to-side when revved anyway.
