I "thought" 95+ were 16 bit, the daughter board is the bit on the extra flexi cable, certainly look different to my 8 bitplug in eprom ECU, maybe AndyP or John Dixon can identify for certain

I'm thinking out loud now, "Would the 'daughter board' refer to that board at the bottom? If so I guess it's an 8 bit ECU?" I'm sure the 8 bit just has a plug in EPROM (when socketed) I can't see a socket for an EPROM on that so I'd say it's 16 bit, just guessig though

I have not opened up an ECU before....... So I really don't know what to compare it to.

As I said that list of JWT ecus above, I can't even find it on there :(

Yeah I know that other thread says that the 16 bit boards are sans-daughterboard, and 8bit boards have the daughterboard.. but I thought it was the other way around.

Which would make sense, that being a 95 ECU - 16bit and with a daughterboard.

I just had a read through the link you posted :- http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showth...ght=jwt+ecu+bit

Doesn't sound right to me, the bit where he states the the 8 bit has a daughter board and the 16 bit does not, maybe I'm wrong but I'm sure on an 8 bit (as is mine) the EPROM or chip sits on the main board, not the daughter board, but then again it's a while since I looked inside mine

That's a newer 16 bit ECU.

Thank you Andy.

I guess it's quite rare then? For a manual TT.

I didn't actually know the 16bit ecu's could be chipped until I read the JWT website. Have you ever seen one before?

I've not seen one before, but I knew that JWT and a few Jap companies do chip them. Not aware of anyone with one in the UK though. The only people I know of in the UK with a 16 bit ECU have replaced them with a chipped 8 bit one.

Yes it's 16 bit and rare but apart from that you're very limited as to what you can do with it.

Thank you AndyP and ChrisC, I do have plans for it though ;)

a new doorstop?

Well at least it's already upgraded so if it suits your setup then you might as well use it :)

Yeah, worth a play. I think that it may have a standard OBD-II interface (which also means that ConZult won't work).

why are the chipping options on the 16 bit so limited then???

Ive got a 16 bit ECU and will want to chip it at somepoint, but is it going to be cost effective or should i just go for a piggyback ecu?

PMSL @ Doorstop!

OBD-II you can get code readers for that type of interface can't you?

What type ecu's are cars running today? 8bit? 16bit? 32bit?

Because there were very few cars with 16bit ECU's sold. I think they only reason they changed was to go for the newer OBD-II management which was a regulatory requirement/standard.

The easy option is to install an 8 bit ECU.

Ought to be able to, they should all be a similar standard (just like SNMP - LOL)

Dunno.

64bit Quad Core ;) LOL

That's... a terrible joke  and I feel so, so geeky that I get it.

You're not the only one but I kept my mouth shut to hide my geekyness LOL

Damn, I knew I was going wrong somewhere!

SNMP:Simple Network Management Protocol

The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) forms part of the internet protocol suite as defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). SNMP is used in network management systems to monitor network-attached devices for conditions that warrant administrative attention. It consists of a set of standards for network management, including an Application Layer protocol, a database schema, and a set of data objects.[1]

SNMP exposes management data in the form of variables on the managed systems, which describe the system configuration. These variables can then be queried (and sometimes set) by managing applications.

Not aware of anyone with one in the UK though. The only people I know of in the UK with a 16 bit ECU have replaced them with a chipped 8 bit one.

I haven't ;)

No, that didn't come in until '96 I think.

Conzult & Datascan work fine.
