how to explain this now:

looking into the engine bay from the front, on the left hand side , mounted on the inside arch is a small black plastic box looking thing with a hose running from it:

A: What is it ?

B: is it supposed to rattle and sound like there's a loose spring in it when you tap on it lightly ?

:)

A. Sounds like your describing the boost sensor mate.

B. don't know the answer to that one.

lol

I didn´t think i had explained it very well ....the "box" isn´t exactly square either..looks like a mixture of a square and a circle ..on it´s side with a pipe or what looks like a clutch cable off a motorbike ( looking) coming from the centre of it leading over the left handside of the engine and dissapearing under the throttle cover ( thing with 300zx on it )

is that any better ?

just trying to figure out if it´s supposed to rattle like it´s broken.

cheers

That sounds like the vacuum actuator unit for the cruise control to me. Is your cruise control working properly?
