Best brake pads for road/race Ferodo DS2500 anyone disagree?

Just wondering why people are still buying others, unless they are on a budget?

LOL Did about 3 or 4 laps I think but we didn't have time for any more anyway.

Just left the system to cool a while between laps.

I was using porterfield pads and Castrol SRF fluid with R34 calipers and disks.

To be honest I don't reckon that much to the Porterfields.

When I first fitted the Skyline calipers I was in a rush and needed some pads to get me going while some proper pads arrived in the post so I chucked a set of Blue Dot pattern pads in costing a massive £14

I swear they were better than the Porterfields and lasted ages!

The worst I've tried were Red Stuff.

Cost about £100, great when really hot but downright dangerous when cold.

I come out of my road onto a steep hill and when driving down there at 10mph first thing in a morning they literally felt like someone had poured oil in my calipers!

I actually had to use the handbrake a couple of times to stop at the bottom.

Dust everywhere and just to put the final nail in the coffin they only lasted about 2000 miles!

I heard they changed the compound since but I wouldn't use them again.

Take this man's advice.........

........if those pads are good enough for such a serious ZX then they will be good enough for any other 300zx here!!

Richard ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I am very happy with the Ferodos, they lasted no problem on numerous 20 minute sessions at Donny on Sunday. no fade whatsoever. I cannot imagine you are going to need a better pad than this for a lap round the ring.

I think Dan (DTA) sells them, drop him a PM...

Glad I could help!

Ferodo without a ****ing doubt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So am I getting these then?... :D

when you sort out the sorry mess of my brakes in my zed

Hi,

I'm must tuning into this thread and will concur that Ferodo pads are an excellent choice. However, as Smithy pointed out at the beginning of this thread, brake performance and efficiency does depend on the pad and disc combination. So, in other words, Ferodo pads may work extremely well for some people but less so for others depending on the discs they're running.

As I've been getting numerous price requests for these since yesterday I've taken the liberty of requesting up-to-date pricing from my supplier.

Ferodo DS2500 Front Pads (300ZX TT standard calipers): £114.95 + £8 postage.

These are in stock (at supplier) and can be send out upon receipt of your payment. Due to the Easter weekend which is nearly upon us I need to state that it is likely that any orders received and paid for by tomorrow will not be dispatched until Tuesday 25th March.

If the interest is large enough for a GB (ie, 10+ orders) I can request further discounts.

I've raced bikes at Donnington and most of the major UK circuits + I've done a few track days at Donny, Brands and Silverston but they are just nothing like the Nurburgring.

1 lap of the Nurburgring will do to your brakes and tyres what a full hours session at a normal circuit would do. which is why it is the ultimate test for nearly all new cars. Remember it is a mountain road really not a purpose built race track with safe run offs etc. It has hairpin bends at the bottom of steep decents and on top of blind brows and blind bends with thick forest inches from the track.

Till you've done the Ring you can't understand it. It is simply something you have got to treat yourselve to. Awesome. Then once you've done it you just want to go back and do it again and again.

That is bloody cheap too bud, anyone thinking of buying these best take em now cos i've never seen them that cheap, ever!

smithy

Yep, lol

Just done a quick look around MRRP is £160ish with most companies selling them for £145 and just 1 company close to dannys price, but it wern't cheaper!

GTR 33/34 ones tend to be cheaper though for anyone with Brembo calipers.

smithy

What do people think of these :-

LOL but as Dan and Smithy said they work different with disc and caliper combos.I can say in all honesty I would not even think about changing mine for any other pad out there

That's what you said about the Porterfields last year :slap: LOL

Ferodo DS2500 for the Standard TT brakes £112 from Tweeks and the same for the R33 Brembo's.

Rears at £98

Do they do rears for the 300zx now, last time I looked they weren't available?

You may have a point because the rears they sent me didn't fit. I've told them and they said they'd order me some ore and to just return the ones I've got. (thats for the standard TT calipers.)

If they don't I'll go for the mintex 1155's which i know they do, but mintex have stopped making them for the rears of the R33.
