Best brake pads for road/race Ferodo DS2500 anyone disagree?

Just wondering why people are still buying others, unless they are on a budget?

i thought porterfields were still well liked.

I think another good options is Mintex 1100's

Have heard porterfields recommended for the rear, but too noisy and dusty up front!

Ferodo without a ****ing doubt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just bought some ebc yellow stuff for taking to the nurburgring in may, not put them on yet though so couldn't tell you if there any good, may get some of these too to take with me incase the yellow stuff ones are crap

As said numerous times, it's often the pad/disc combination that can either enable a particular pad to perform at it's best or not.

By far the dustiest pad i've used and still do is the Ferrodo DS2500, it also squeels like a pig when hot and that is recorded on many forums, it does however perform very very well and for the price it should.

The porterfeild being around 40 quid cheaper is not IMO as noisy or dusty but performs very well, though not quite as good as the Ferrodo BUT going for the porterfield which costs 25 quid more than the R4-s ( THE R4) and it certainly matches it, just very few use it due to limted suppliers.

Yup the DS range CAN be noisey but at least then the person you are about to run over can hear you lol. They are however THE BEST pad I have ever EVER fitted. Yes I've driven zeds with every single possible combo and every single time its the DS kitted cars which give me the confidence to drive the car properly.....

No ones disputing that fella, just pointing out the downside of such a good pad are price, dust, squeel and pad life. AP themselves who often have the DS2500 in their big brake kits will admit the same. However for lesser money you can possibly have less side effects and if compatible discs, be "almost" as good. ;)

In that price bracket though,(125 quid-ish) the project Mu is even better still and i've not seen these being minced in literally hours on a track like i have ferrodos!

It all depends how much you paid for them and how well they brake and what you are using them for, and your opinion doesn't really count if you have not used any other pad to compare them against?

Yeah I have the Ferrodos on mine with the Brembos and it stops very well. Although they squeak like a MoFo...

I am a little worried about the track comment as I am off to Doninigton tomorrow morning. I hope I don't wear out the pads before the end of the day!

On the sxoc they are meant to be the best pad for track work and still leaving discs useable, I wouldn't worry!

im using them on the nurburgring, putting them on 2 weeks before i go, and wearing them in on the drive there, then taking round 8 laps, then will prob replace with some crap for the drive home, then buy some for general driving, kevlar something i suppose, maybe ebc red stuff if the yellow ones are ok on the track????

Do yourself a favour and get the ds2500 for the ring, then put on the others for normal road work!

ill take both, and see what happens, prob fit the ebc before i go, try them on the first day, if there shite ill put on the 2500's and see how they stand up.

Simple, stay away from EBC full stop lol. Crap cold and no real benefit when hot...

No one seems to have mentioned Hawk pads. I went from EBC reds to Hawks and couldn't believe the difference, Good from cold and held up well on the track, don't seem that dusty either, no more than the EBC's anyway. Ain't tried Ferrodo's though so I don't know how much better they are..... Hawks were a good bit cheaper though when I bought them last summer!

Gutted, what you recomend for the track??????

An anchor! LOL

My R34 brake setup and decent pads lasted about half a lap before there was no pedal on the ring LOL

I'd never got them to fade at all on the road before

i don't believe all this crap about the ring being so bad, i have watched vids and spoken to people who take there cars there 3-4 time a year, never have any probs, somebody off here is taking the zed over before me and they go there all the time with other motors, ill ask him.

Maybe they don't have such big heavy cars and know the track quite well?

I didn't have a clue!

All I know is the brakes boiled in no time at all and the pads were as good as on fire when I finished LOL

We met a 3 times world champion Aussie driver who was in his 70's and knew the track really well.

He took me round in my Z in about 8.5 mins.

He said the brakes had gone after about 5 corners but carried on going for it driving in his bare feet.

Totally mad!

so what did you do, just go round once and call it a day???? you must have carried on going round but just not thrashed it, only going to soak up the atmosphere, lots of car enthusiasts together, and also to open it up on the straights. its the experiences like the crazy auzzie that makes it such and amazing place. any idea where you get these forodo pads from, cant see them anywhere to buy online.

So a 70 year old made your fluids boil when he took you round the ring :D

Sorry chris ;), whats pads and fluid were you using?

I have Ferodo DS2500 on my cars and find that they don't squeel or create a lot of dust on the big Brembo's but on the standard Brembos and calipers they both squeel and create a lot of dust. On standard discs I find Mintex 1155 to be almost as good as the Ferodos + not as dusty and don't need as much heat to be effective, but then not quite as good when lots of heat put through them.

I wouldn't ever fit Green, Red or Yellow EBC pads to my cars again. They all seem to be disc killers and the yellow pads warped a new set of discs in 2 days. Not fond of porterfields either. IMO they take too long to get to effective braking temp and dustier than the ferodos.
