Hi,

As you can probably see, im pretty new here (relatively speaking), and have been casually looking at 300ZX's for around 15 months.

Ive given up on the idea of a mint TT silver SWB car with black leather!

Ive only seen one.

Also LWB might be a tad more practical.

so.. Silver, black leather, low milage, etc etc... Can you guys see any reason NOT to buy this car.... (havent gone to have a look yet)

Ok the exhausts might be a bit crazy, but can you have the failures he has described at this sort of milage?

Having said that.... I had a PAS pump go on my Rover 220 Coupe turbo at 19,000 miles.

I gather the HICAS light is pretty common, could it just need a refill and bleed? (It IS hydraulic on that year isnt it?)

Thanks for any replies in advance.......

Ross

have you been to view the car?... i would not bid on a car that you have not seen, heard and driven. if the mileage is geniune then it could be the cause of a few of the problems but it seems shockingly low and as its an import id be questioning whether to trust it or not...

your best bet is to get some1 who knows their stuff to go and view the car with you as bidding blind could turn out to be an expensive mistake!

i recon with as little milage as that youd probbaly find more probs than one above 60 as it would have already had most of the main things changed. although the engine would be sweet with little milage.

but 27000 is way too low for for that age, but as an import theres no way to tell. unless you get hold of the jap service history.

and i dont think the prop bearing would wear out with this low milage. but age could play a part in wearing it.

also check wear on the throttle pedal brake pedal and clutch pedal this is a good way to tell milage on a car.

Hello mate with these cars too good to be true is usually too good to be true. I would be very sceptical about the mileage. Like the guys say go and have a look. These cars are expensive when they go wrong, so unless your buying it as the beggining of a project be very choosy.

Ok fair enough.

Will steer clear but keep an eye on what it goes for.

If its pennies, people would have gone to view and been unimpressed.

There was a nice looking Silver SWB with bronze volk wheels, really fancied that, but was out of my price range.

Cheers for the replies.

if it goes for under 2000 then its by all means worth it but its best not to buy a lie. just harder to sell. but as above if its a project your after than thats a different story i suppose.

go have a look take it for a log test drive.

look underneath the car for rust etc altho imports are less likely to have corrosion.

check for funny noises bringit right up to temp check for smoke... you know the score.

It would appear to have had a new interior at some point, tweed panels and leather seats. Makes it hard to judge the milage, you can often tell by the amount of wear.

End of the day, see what its like, take someone with you who knows the cars and you may get a bargain.

check the buying guide as well. Worst case with hicas and you disable its about £300 for a bits i think, not too hard to fit. Centre propshaft bearing well they are about £120 plus fitting so if you budget £200 for that (although there are other things it could be, tension rod bushes, rear gearbox mount etc)

HICAS light coming on and of is normally low fluid, very common.

Body work looks clean though, (electical ariel goosed!) but the rear spoiler looks good, normally a sign its been garaged alot of its life - not much water got to it!. front bumper looks a bit scabby but they all tend to at that age.

Have a look see what you think - i always think that a car like this in full working order should at least cost 4k, so if it goes for £2500 youve got £1500 to spend on it. food for thought there :)

yeah sounds about right. i bought mine for 2 grand and knew what needed fixing replacing etc. ended up being 10 times more in the end. I didnt think i was going to go all out on one but i fell in love, so i dumbed my gf and started a new relationship. Theres been some hard times. shes been bleeding alot and is now in hospital. should be out by end of next week.

il give her a good riding when im next inside her.

Now way in a million years has that car only done 27,000 kilometers!!!!

Yea, ok you could say it has been garaged and cherised for all of its life, but i would disagree.

Look at the over all condition of the car. Engine bay is minging. The seats have been replaced with leather ones, and as mentioned, without changing the door panels. Just from the pictures you can seen how cracked the leather is in the seats. If you look closely ou can see bubbling in the black lower part of the spoiler.

My personal opinion, dont bother

If you can go to see it i would, there's no harm in looking. It could be well off and have been clocked but you would able to tell by listening to the engine if it had.

Thats not alot of money for a manual TT, then again its a very early model so you need to see if the bodywork is sound. And the vibration sounds to me like the prop is slightly out of balance, if the clutch has been done then it might not of been lined up.

If your not mechanically minded though either find someone who is or steer clear and there won't be any sleepless nights lol.

Agree it's almost definitley been clocked - but isn't that standard S1 trim?? My first zed had leather seats and tweed panels and I thought that was right? My next one's got suede but that's S2

I thought that aswell  I have defineately seen original black leather seats with tweed panels before ;)

mine is stock and has leather seats with tweed panels ..maybe the US version had that, no idea...but it.s definitely stock set up.

:)

mine doesnt have tweed and its a 1990 car (as a i recently found out) .... so no i dont think it is stock. Otherwise why would they bother fitting leather panels on some :S

Sounds like yours have had new interiors...

what leather panels?? As far as I knew, panels came in tweed and various suede like materials - never seen oem leather

if it's got tweed panels it would have had tweed seats if I am not wrong. Leather seats are often put in fron past broken leather + that funny velor material whatever its called

Engine bay pic says one thing - its had a respray! That dust everywhere is a tell-tale giveaway that its been in a bodyshop.....

No you're wrong lol. S1 had leather seats with tweed panels....

ahh I have learned more on tweed styling today. I had always thought that was an update people did from stock tweed. One of the nissan designers off (hungover) days is my guess

What Andy said!

Only S2 models had the alcantara trim and leather arm rests. Earlier models all had tweed trim as standard. Those with leather seats had tweed door cards and glove box etc.

UK spec cars had the nicer dark coloured tweed trim though; hence it looks different from J-spec cars.

Richard ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
