Started the car for the first time today, since Zedfest last September.

Had to pop to the local Tyrespot for a replacement battery.

Noticed that the idle is very high (1100-1200) and it's running as rich as fook.......stinks of petrol.

Any ideas on a quick fix...or could it be one of a thousand things? LOL

Is it because she hasn't been used for 6 months and maybe needs a good run out?

Shit steve, this is the first time i've seen you post anything in HELP, i would've thought it needs a run out after sittin for 5 months, i'm sure someone will know.

how much petrol did it have in when you started it cos petrol only has a shelf life of 2 weeks.

could have a split/cracked petrol hose, look under bonnet maybe. may just need re tightening.

Don't think it's anything like that. Just smells of unburnt fuel from the exhausts.

Didn't realise it was just two weeks. There's about three quarters of a tank in her, so I'd better take it easy with the boost until I refill then eh!

apparently true so if ya gonna leave your car stood for a while try and have as little as possible in it and when restarting have some fresh in a canister.

good advice.

so i assume the petrol starts to evaporate, and your left with just oily remains.

petrol has a shelf life of around 12 months...however octane level will drop by about 2 points after around 100 hours in a sealed environment.

i doubt this has anythng to do with your symptons though steve.

Check the Temp sender connector is securely seated, and check it for corrosion. Is the Aux fan running ?

not sure matey, i've never left the car long enough, someone told me it went a bit like jelly

Does that mean if you pop into a shell garage that hasn't got a large customer base for V-Power, you may end up with old fuel from their tanks that could indeed be more like 96-97 ron?

That's pretty shit init!!

They don't tell you that when you're forking out premium prices for the stuff.

Will check the sender out.

Not sure about the Aux fan, will need to check.

well the shell garage at carville sells v-power pretty regular so i dont think ya need to worry about that :D your lucky i have to travel from newton aycliffe for mine, darlingtons has closed.

if left long enough it will end up looking and smelling like varnish and it dosent burn very well

yeah this is why i'm thinkin steve is havin this problem!!!

Petrols shelf life dropped dramitically when they removed the lead content. What used to last 12 months now only lasts around 1 to 2 months before depositing varnishes, etc everywhere.

well there you have it.....

hay why dont you try putting in some octane booster just to eliminate that possibility?

:)

yeah that could work or some decent injector/fuel treatment.

i'll bring some with me to sutton bank if your going steve, same stuff we use on the aston martins at work.

If this is the case, will this old petrol do any damage, or am I OK just to use it up?

Should I refill now and mix it with the old fuel or wait until the old has been fully used before refilling with fresh petrol?

best fing to doooo is ta leave it aaat of gear an rev da tits aaaat of it till all the fuel is used.

or ya can empty the contents of the tank and sell the remaining fuel on ebay for half price.

just mix it steve it'll be fine you'll be more than compensating for it

might be after fitting new batt the ecu has gone into "self learn" mode steve

Quite possible that the ECU has lost its self learn info and is starting again from scratch.

Octane booster will not do anything so don't waste your money. Fill the rest of the tank with fresh fuel and take it easy for a while :)

would also check all ya connectors for the dreaded corrosion, im in on sat morn if ya want to pop over, will stick me driver in places you never even imagined lol

Might give you a buzz towards the end of the week Allan.

Cheers
