crap in general .... upgrade them ;)

Welcome to the nut house buddy.

Do a search and you will find lots of threads about this subject.

There are several options,

You can change your brake fluid, refurbish the callipers etc, this is he cheapest.

New pads and disks etc as well as the above.

The next upgrade is probably the skyline R33/34 brembo callipers and disks, these can be hard to come by though.

The next is possibly smithys big brake upgrade, see the traders section for details.

You are then ionto aftermarket big brake kits. If you do a search on ebay or google I am sure you will find some.

Good luck with it.

Darrell

no, thats definatly not normal. Sounds like your experiencing common issue of seized Caliper pistons. You'll need to overhaul the calipers.

Nope!

The brakes were designed for the car. 4 pot calipers and vented discs arent crap.

If the breaks dont stop the car then you have a fault ... like Legrath says

Correct!!

It's just wear and age taking its toll on the components. 15 years of hauling a 1500kg+ car from high speed to a standstill will have that effect

Overhaul the calipers (they can seize), new brake fluid and a quality set of discs & pads and the brakes will be just fine. You don't have to spend £££££s upgrading them, unless you have serious BHP modifications....

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

The brakes on a zed will work fine if in good working order.if your caliper pistons are free id give them a bleed to flush out the old fluid.when you see the colour of it after 17years youll no why it needs changing.brake fluid is hydroscopic(absorbs moisture) so after time its boiling point is reduced and pedal feel will be compromised. It will make a hell of a difference.

mine same, i have ordered the caliper refurbishment kit front and rear, from bigredd, and thinking the the upgrade from dta, but rhats only front afaik

hey there

i got standard brembo drilled and grooved front discs, overhauled calipers and hawk pads from Z1 in u.s.a.

brake brace from Zcentre,

braided lines from Z1,

and they are still CRAP!!!

my advise..........

check out robo's info for 300zx upgrades on the net for big brake issues, he can get you 350Z track rotors and caliper brackets for around $550 delivered.

if that does not stop your zed, nothing will!!!!

hope this helps.

cheers for the replies. as money is short guna flush the brake fluid thru and replace etc. then take it from there

The stock brakes are ok if you want to stay within the UK speed limits. :)

But if you want to use them in anger and try and stop at high speeds then IMHO they are CRAP

MAC 1

you are soooooo..... right!!!

I know Alan;) Around seven years ago I did a track day at Croft with a member of the Z club He owned a 95 Z with less than 30k miles on the clock he completely destroyed his brake discs and pads after only doing 3 laps

Ok for stopping at the end of a drag strip at around 100mph but like I said use them in anger and you may as well spray the pads with WD40 and bail out all IMHO :D

I upgraded to a Skyline conversion and that made a massive improvement but I have to say in all honesty when I ditched those and replaced them with the AP Racing six pot set up it makes the Skyline conversion poor in comparison.
