hi guys and girls, hope all is well.

ok, i am looking to buy a manual transmission convertible, i can stretch to 9k and i like the look of the 300zx. one of the reasons i likle the zx (apart from it looks great and goes like the proverbial off a shovel...)is the boot space - i want to use this car day to day, and i am a mobile PC engineer so i have a number of tools that i need to carry around, and need to transport 1 or 2 PC's every now and again. thus i need a bit of boot space.

so a few questions...

1) i cant seem to find a manual (gearbox) convertible model - do they exist?

2) how practical is this car?

3) anybody got any idea of urban fuel use difference between the TT and the NA?

4) is this car what im gonna want or does anybody have any better suggestions....ive looked at z3, slk 230 and saab 9-3 - still like the 300 though.

thanks in advance

cheers

kev

thanks for your comments....to be honest, the s2000 goes as fast as i need a car to go!

the TT sounds bezerk, but mental is way over the top already for me i think.

thing is, i have a Westfield that i havent driven for years now cos it always needs something doing to it, and i just dont have the time - if the zx is going to be similar its not gonna be for me...

Being Japanese, and specifically a Nissan.....The 300zx is more realiable than most cars its age (in fact most cars its age have neen recycled into other metal objects by now!), but it all depends on Past maintenance history.

While they can be cheap to buy now, they were £35k cars 15 years ago and Maintenace costs will reflect that. At this sort of age Wiring looms can become brittle and Water pipes may be past their lifespan. With Wear and tear items properly replaced, regular servicing and the correct parts used they are 100% dependable.

Most owners will have had near troublefree motoring for many years, but some will have had to deal with costly repairs from either unwise purchases or purchasing an example thats had a hard previous life.

Depending on your mechanical knowledge...in fact despite any mechanic knowledge it is wise to take somebody along who is familiar with the 300zx.

Becuase of the current low costs Its all to common for somebody to purchase one that needs some money spent on it, and finding themselve not able to afford the maintenance and subsequently passing ithe car on with the required work still outstanding or having poor workmanship from inferior parts and inferior labour.

Many mechanics will shy away from the car, through lack of knowledge, and finding a 300zx specliast garage or somebody you can trust to work on the car is not always easy.

Yep all true and Legrath has covered any holes I missed there.

You do realise that most TT's are Targa tops and give you open top driving that feels the same (almost) as driving a full drop head. However if it is a full roadsteer your after your £9K would get you a VERT ZX, a TT engine with full rebuild and new ECU loom. Thus a Very reliable car thats that bit different and very spicey. If you don't want that quirkiness then the S2000 is a lovery car. + £1500 will buy you a Mugen Supercharger kit for it. So £2000 to £2500 will give you a real scarey monster. :D

I'd go for the S2000 because of the bullet proof reliability and lightness of the chassis, I wouldn't trust a 300 as a daily driver. I know a lot of people on here use them daily with no problems but I've had 3 since 2002 and they all constantly needed things fixing.

Congrats.

If you were choosing between a TT Coupe or the S2000 I would of been in favour of the Z32, but for open top motoring the S2000 is more of a sports car than the Z32 vert NA. Enjoy :)

For what you appeared to be after i think you have. The 300zx is pretty hardcore really. It's a totally imotive thing to do buying a 300 and only looneys like the people in this club can find justifiable arguments as to it's merits. Don't get me wrong I'm not slagging them off. They are in general the nicest looneys I've ever met and I must be a complete loon because I have 3 300's and they really get under your skin.

The S2000 is a loverly car and i hope you'll have loads of fun with it and feel free to drop in and have a chat and let us know how its going.

You wont get the same banter on the S2000 club bore. The humour on here is the kind soldiers have and earned through pleasure and suffering.

P.S What colour did you get and where are the pic's?
