As mentioned a while back, my Zed is off the road due to a tapping noise under load. No other problems like overheating and the oil pressure was magnificent. On a cold start it went right round the clock and when hot was showing 45 lbs on tickover and approx 75-80 when running. I have been around cars all my life especially when involved in the Rally scene and sadly spent a lot of time underneath them at weekends, so I am used to engine noises and there cause. My son Jimmer sadly had to endure this when he was a boy when his hobby was really trains (model & real). Now I was convinced my tapping was due to some sort of ring failure and have been duly stripping the engine to find the cause. Now Jimmer, who only listened to it a couple of times, squinted and said 'a bearing'. He also pointed out that when he took Funky Si's engine apart, one piston had almost totally melted, and yet it ran quietly. Well, tonight I undid all them bleeding bolts around the sump and the big ends and.......that cocky little bleeder was right. One big end has taken the white metal off and was through to the backing material. Luckily the crank is not scored but I will get it checked and polished if OK. He will be on Mastermind soon, mark my words. The subject of course will be Zed engines. ;)

P.S. A normal one is in the middle.
