Hi All

Im having a few problems deciding what turbo to go for out of the two.

I know there isnt much difference between them but im hoping some of you will have your own views on which is best to buy.

As my knowledge isnt the best when it comes to turbo's

JWT 530BB also known as Garrett GT2554R

Z1 GT600R also known as Garrett GT2860R

Regards

Dan

Having fitted and drove a car with the 600s i can say that these are a very good turbo for the price.the impellers are slightly larger than the 530bbs as well.

JWT will be quicker spool up, Z1 will be slightly more power.

Depends what you want from your car.

I went for JWT 530's becuase I wanted really good drivability and quick spool up.

you'll have to think about 5 bolt downpipes as well. Mike Smith are the best option for both these tubs at the moment.

yup that's the ones.

I would have got those myself but they were not avilable when I bought my Greg Dupree manifolds and downpipes.

I would say the JWT 530BB because it sounds good when you tell people what you have :D

Would anyone have a power/torque for of both so we can see how power is produced over the rev range?

I was thinking of getting these aswell

Where is the best place to buy these from?

Cheers

I went for 530s as I wanted a driveable car for the road. Not fully tuned up yet, so cant really comment.

I would go for the JWT 530bb. I have them on mine as they are good to use for all around driving. They spool up very fast without turbo lag, and they produce truly awesome kick ass power out of them. The GT600r turbos are ok, but they have the downside of having lots of turbo lag, and they are not good for ordinary city driving.

they are pretty much the same turbo, difference in lag betweem the 2 would be negligable

The Z1 600R turbos are actually GT2560R turbos (not GT2860R turbos) and a T28/T25 hybrid...the 2554R is a full T25 and smaller.

The 2554R has near stock spoolup and especially with proper headwork/manifolds/downpipes these turbos can make it a very quick and nippy car.

My experience is that the 2560's don't spool up near a quick as their little brother and if you lay out the VG30DETT over the 2560 compressor map you can see why.

Thanks, I always thought they were about the same

I have the Garret GT2860RS which look identical to the JWT530's and they had no discernable lag when I originally had ported standard Mainfolds. Since the MS manifolds were fitted you don't get any lag, but it has less bottom end grunt and more push over over 4500 rpm.

So you really should think about what you want from your car before you throw stuff on it. I think I prefered the standard manifold as the power delivery was smooth right through the rev range with grunt right from the off. (maybe because its been so wet) The MS deliver a real noticable difference at the top end and it will fish tail at 90 when you floor it in 3rd.

Do we have any Dyno printouts for a Z32 in the UK with the 530bb turbos ?

Not yet, but once I get mine back and run it in we will have ;)

I still dnt have a clue what to do

Im looking for more acceleration & big power in the mid range rather than top end to be honest.

If i was to get the ms or simular exhaust manifolds would it make alot more difference in spool up times making the gt600rs a better opsion as they have better mid range power?

Also would it be easier to help me decide if you knew what spec i have ?

Cheers

"big power" as in "more power" or as in totally uncontrollable car ?

for more power and more acceleration look at increasing compression (9:1-9.5:1) + GT2554R's + NA diff.

It also helps to put your Zed on a diet...

Mark,

Have you dyno'd your setup at all? pre or post the MS mani's, would be good to see the power curve.

Never Dyno'd a car to be honest. It just don't really interest me. So long as it feels fun and Porsches are easy meat I'm happy. There was a definate increase in mid to topend grunt though and that surge didn't start to fade until about 7000rpm instead of 6500 as it was previously.

Idealy though the car really does need rolling road mapping to get the best out of it and then turn the wick back a notch or 2 to keep it reliable.

Any noticable changes in low revs power or torque ?

Yep not as torquey at below 4000 rpm, but that maybe just needing remapping.

The devilsz turbos sound quite tempting as they have HKS actuators built in and there have been issues with the jwt actuators
