Hello strangers!

Every so often Zeds get brought up on driftworks and people discuss the merits of drifting them. Personally I don't think TTs are ideal for hard regular track work purely from a money point of view, and having owned three TTs that I tracked a little bit. The NA ones though would be a lot more practical. They are just as fast on anything twisty thats under 60mph and much easier to maintain. I remember at Brunters a couple of years back and slick Pete was one of the fastest in his stripped NA, compared to 300-400bhp TTs.

One thing that most people who havn't drift don't really realise is that you don't need much power to drift. I learnt in a 140bhp bimmer 318IS and it was more than enough poke; you learn to use the weight of the car instead of big manfoot oversteers. Anyhows, to get to the point, there must be someone out there with a half decent (perhaps stripped out?) NA that fancies a bit of drifting? All you need is some spare wheels and some (free) part worn tyres. Obviously lowered/coilovers etc would be handy but certainly not needed. There are plenty of beginner practice days that are on wide open spaces with cones; Santa Pod,etc. Just thought I'd post it up as I spent so many years enjoying Zeds and would like someone to prove if they are any good for drifting. Also I always remember slagging wozzer in his NA because he was slow ;) so its about time some NA owners proved otherwise

180hp Mk3 supra na, stripped, caged, buckets, harnesses, no tred left on rear tyres but its lots of fun! Cost me less than a grand to build. Straight 6 so much less hassle than the V.

I love my Z but its just too big, heavy and expensive to abuse

NA shorty Z might be better tho

Very nice! I was watching one at Barkston Heath a few months back. He was having a ball and very consistant.

To be honest, i would love to get into drifting. I used to make an effort to get down to some of the practice sessions and watch. But to be honest, my main goal is to get another TT. Unfortunatly finances dictate that motorsport is just beyond my reach for the foreseeable future. But its deffo something i would love to do.

Wouldnt to bottom end of ANY zed find it hard work (in regard to the lubrication system) as the big ends dont seem to be the most robust out there?

The big ends are plenty robust enough, but its oil starvation thats the problem, from G-forces. The oil surges away from the oil pickup.

You would want at a minimum a Bigger Sump with Baffles.....and ideally a Dry sump setup.

i have done drifting and track days a few times and it's the most fun i have ever had.......

but lets not kid are selfs its far from cheap!

in one 4-5 hours practice i could kill 8 tyres at least and even 18" part worns your looking at 30 to 50 quid each.... then there's cost of track use and fuel costs and lets not forget the main one

repairs and maintanace....!

if you dont do the work yourself it gets expensive.. i used to blow turbo gaskets all the time and ball joints and suspension all take a good amount of abuse

i will have another drift car.. but only when i have a spare 4 - 5 hundred pound a month!
